why are exhausts so expensive?

Ive had supras etc, hks and blitz exhausts used to be around 600 new.

I know the r35 exhaust is a little different at the back compares to most cars,

But prices are in the reigon of 3 to 5 thousand?

Is this because of the value of the car, exhaust manufacturers expect the owners to be wealthy and just pay through the nose for one?

Struggling to think how.

Surely a custom exhaust would be your cheapest option.

I can just about justify a grand, but anything more is just taking the mick

I paid 2k fitted for a 102mm system with 90mm downpipes, I didn't think it was expensive.

That's the truth of it IMO yes, and if you think exhausts are expensive wait till you look at brake discs!

+1

You're not kidding on brake discs. I'm looking for a set of discs & pads atm but can't help feeling they're way OTT on price. I don't mind a high price if I'm getting value for money but a high price because it's a GTR I don't appreciate.

I dropped lucky with my last GTR and snapped up a barely used set from another forum member but it's a hit & miss tactic

I did chuckle looking at the used ceramics at the moment and ran the VFM equation through my head thinking how many sets of regular pads and disks I would get through vs how long the ceramics will last...

What was your conclusion? I have no feel for the lifespan of ceramics

That's six words and he's knocking them out for more than a grand, I'll bet.

lude 8th October 2014 08:24 PM

How much is the russ fellows?

vxrcymru 8th October 2014 08:30 PM

Its all relative the GTR is cheap to mod compared to say an aventador 3k for a remap....

Protegimus 8th October 2014 08:32 PM

There is a positive side to all of this.

When you move away from an R35 everything seems amazingly affordable.

My R35 exhaust system was around 2k.
My R32 system was 650.

R35 Alcons over 7k.
R32 Alcons (slightly smaller) about half the price.

Felt like a total bargain! :chuckle:

Maybe this is why Skyline garages have just that, a garage, to do the work in.
R35 tuners have massive aircraft hangers with huge amount of investment.
At the end of the day, we all know who is paying for it...

dominic1 8th October 2014 09:25 PM
