Number plates

I want to sort my front plate out. They ahve been swapped for aftermarket ones which I don't love and also it's just the plate stuck on with some sticky numberplate tape.

I was hoping for both guidance on where you might go to get this sort of stuff done (I could sit myself no issue, thinking more along the lines of getting plates done) and also inspiration on what the options are.

One route is of course aftermarket with the options of nicer letters and smaller plates although to be honest I favour the stock look and don't want to be illegal or do anything that will pre infuriate the old bill. I see the R35 as a decent looking motor and don't want to 'rice' it up.

Therefore my favoured option at this moment is to replace with nice stock plates from Middlehurst which is where the car was supplied from. I had a good chat with John from Middlehurst today who, as ever, was incredibly helpful Will call them up tomorrow to check pricing and availability.

Possibly also consider a nice surround / holder as I am sure I have seen a number of GT-Rs running these, but cant think where.

Any suggestions? Photos of your own set ups welcome or pointers to online places.

Cheers
Mart

Hey Mart,

I have used these people before, all went without hitch.

My Showplates - Number Plate design page - see what you can design

If you want to get a nice surround, not sure, but maybe look the other side of the pond, as they love that thing in the US.

Cheers for that looks good. Will have a play around with it. I assume the black plates are for classic / vintage cars only and if put on a modern car one should go straight to jail without passing go or collecting £200?

Yes, they are only for classic cars. A guy near where I live has black plates on his GTR and has had three fines on his car in the last few weeks alone. At least £50 a pop as well so ...

If you put illegal plate on your car. And Mr plod reports you to the DVLA.
the second time you get caught they can take the plate off you, Without payment,

Ive been told this by traffic police, on numerous occations.

I have mine placed in my front window at present. Slightly obscured so totally illegal. I had a chat with Middlehurst who were spot on with advice. Mine is a middlehurst car originally so pending price for new plates I think I will go for standard Middlehurst ones attached directly to the bumper with no surround.

My car is loud and has blacked out windows so the less 'inflamatory' / 'illegal' things I can have the better. The show plates site looked good and I designed up a fairly basic, standardish plate for what was reasonable money

i actually think a bigger rear plate with standard sized text looks better on the gtr's big back end

Agreed. That's what Middlehurst supply. Standard front and enlarged rear. You can select that on the show plates site.

Paul, you must have seen a fair few GT-R's with different number plate and holder configerations. Any preferences? And any other pics?

I use Demon Plates. Very plain but with 3D raised Carbon Letters and no border. All legal and have proper markings etc (been pulled once and he inspected and was happy).

I fix them with 3mm thick tape but use twice as many as the three they supply you - next to impossible to get off (plus no one wants to clone a car with a personal plate as sort of defeats the object).

My personal plate was cloned, plod came round and commented on my non standard font which he then said leave on and they'd put a note on pnc saying that the valid plate has my font.

2 years later he still hasn't come round to rescind the instruction!

Anyone used this firm before?

Plates For Cars Designer - Design Online

They offer a GTR side badge which is a nice touch but would that be legal?

Mine are legal sizes (not like Papa Smurf's rear plate) however, the spacing may be a little off !!!

Used this company on a number of occasions and never had any problems, service is good and prompt- and there are more options offered to play around with your design than many other suppliers.

No it wouldn't, anything other than GB/EU badges will make the plate illegal.
