Cool, but they are clawing it back now.

Having given Maynards the instruction to send the crank to a company recommended by a fellow GTROC member, TWO WEEKS AGO, I have just got an email from them saying they havent even received the crank yet!!!

I have a feeling Maynards are about to get an ear-bashing

Maynards have been 'busy', and promise to send the crank tomorrow

Another needless bloody delay

Nigel - if you do contact them mention my name. Might get you some preferential treatment and possibly even get me some browny points...!

Maynards have at last sent the stuff for balancing

Nigel - when I spoke to Mark earlier he said he was just about to find out the prices for you

The Micra is for sale, I only have a few things to sort (fuel pump, CV boots, coil harness) before I will get the bottom end back. Its all go now

Have booked a track day at Llandau for the 2nd of July, which should hopefully be the car's first proper shakedown run out

Nearly 9 weeks it's taken to get the internals balanced ( ), but it's finally done.

Hi Jeff,

I'd be interested to know how much material had to be removed from the crank to balance it??

Regards

I would be extremely grateful for people's input on any aspect of it! I can change everything and anything about it at this stage because the engine is stripped and the car is sitting at the side of my house. Stuff you think I've missed out, stuff you think I dont need, suggestions for alternatives to the parts I've chosen (esp. cheaper alternatives ) etc etc

THE LIST:

R33 RB26 block, bored +1mm
87mm forged pistons (possibly Wiseco)
Standard conrods, lightened and balanced
Standard (R32) crank, balanced and reground
Standard bearings, new set

These may have been covered - but I can't be stuffed reading all the posts!
better off getting a set of forged rods and selling your stock units.

Sell the R32 GTR crank and upgrade to an R33 GTR crank (oil drive better)

Quote:
Head ported and polished (discovered, not done by myself)
3 angle seats
Bronze valve guides
New set of valve stem seals
Standard cams, R33 exhaust cam as the original one snapped on installation
NGK #7 iridium spark plugs.

Get Tomei Poncams, very cheap and will get the power you want - sell the stockers to someone wanting to upgrade the an RB20 or RB25.

Cometic 1.2mm steel head gasket
HKS metal throttle body, inlet and exhaust gaskets
New set of turbo gaskets, standard
ARP rod bolts
New standard cambelt

All these are fine

Apexi PowerFC and Hand Commander
GReddy Profec B spec II boost controller

considered the Blitz iD III?

Standard radiator
Standard Intercooler
Standard water pump
Standard oil pump (new)
Planning to keep Hicas / aircon / ABS systems

Std rad and I/C is fine, but DEFINATELY go for an aftermarket oil pump - this is the lifeblood of your engine, don't skimp

Apexi induction kit
Z32 AFMs + adapter harnesses

N1 turbos

Have you considered the HKSGT-SS or a pair of secondhand GT2530's? such a huge variation in the N1 Turbos - only the R34 are BB core. HKS are far better for response and in Aust we have lots of cars making 470hp+ at the wheels on them.

HKS turbo elbows
HKS downpipes
SumoPower decat
Trust SS Evolution cat-back exhaust

SARD 700cc / Denso 720cc injectors
Nismo fuel pump
Nismo fuel presure regulator

you could go a Bosch 044 motorsport pump, or the HKS intank is good as well

Weapon-R oil catch tank
Mocal oil filter relocation kit

Nismo 320kph speedo, and MPH converter box removed

OS Giken twin plate clutch
17x9.5 Volk Racing wheels, with 255/40 ZR17 tyres
N1 discs + Ferodo DS2500 pads front / standard discs + pads rear

Already installed carbon-fibre rear spoiler, carbon-fibre bonnet arriving early next year. Which has nothing to do with anything really, just thought I'd complete the picture

Um, thats about it I suppose

I'd also be interested in what sort of power you think I could be looking at with all of the above.

Many thanks,

Jeff

Jeff, with the items I listed above, there is no reason you could not make 470rwhp. (or around 600 engine hp)

Do put an oil cooler on, not only does it help your engine live longer, it also enables your car to hold more oil!

I picked up an EARLS USA made oil cooler (305mmX155mmX55mm) and billet sandwich plate for $360 new (or about 160.00 pounds) - very cheap insurance.

DANOOH - Where did you source this from? Did you also fit a remote oil filter kit at the same time aswell?

I have got a thermostatic oil cooler, a Mocal one, which I bought second hand from someone on this forum. I mainly bought it for the filter relocation part, and I dont intend installing the cooler until I see for myself whether I need one or not

N1 turbos came with the car, and I definitely cant afford new turbos!! Cams are possible upgrades in the future. I got the Walbro fuel pump in the end, and if its not up to the job I'll just buy another one and run them both in parallel

Mart - The Mocal kit bought new from Thinkauto is around the £190 mark IIRC

New front splitter (see my thread in Members Gallery), GReddy cambelt and ACL trimetal 'race' bearings should now be added to that list.

Bearings are being ordered today, by Maynards. Unfortunately doesnt look like they'll be here until Friday, so my plans to be building the engine up this weekend have been scuppered

All being well, though, I should have the bottom end back next weekend
