Just had a call from Maynards, to tell me that Universal Balancing have 'ruined' my conrods

Material taken from the wrong places, and in the wrong direction, or something. I dont really know the ins and outs of it, but anyway - he's going to call them on Monday to tell them what a mess they've made of them, maybe give them a chance to explain themselves

So I might well be on the lookout for another set of rods. Another set might well work out the same price as Mark's time to sort them out - if he can sort them out at all that is!

Engine was going to be done this coming week aswell

What conrods were they? The stock ones are usually within 1/2 gramme or less out of balance from the factory, the material that would need removing from the heaviest in a set would be minute...Never heard of such dramas rebuilding a road engine, what a palaver. To ruin a set of rods balancing them takes some doing.

Shit Jeff what a nightmare - What did they do? Do you think this is from machining the oil cups off?

Well he says the job they've done balancing the crank is good So I can still recommend them for that. Just not conrods, it seems.

Cool, but they are clawing it back now.

Rods received from cokey this morning - thanks mate

Spoke to Mark this afternoon, bottom end will be finished by Friday and I can pick it up, plus the old pistons and conrods to take pictures etc. I can spend the weekend finishing the engine, and one evening next week will install engine in car, at long long last

Woohoo - I just discovered that the crank I'm using ISN'T an R32 crank after all, it's an R33 one, with the revised and infinitely better oil pump drive

Got the oil and water pumps on this morning, rear oil seal, thermostat, and just put the head on with the Cometic gasket.

Starting to look a bit like an engine now:

Need an engine crane to lift it onto the sump now. Off to Tony's again I think

It was sat on the crank brace for a bit, yes. Cant see how that can do anything any harm

It's all but finished now, and the Micra is sat at Steve's garage with the RB in the boot, ready for him to get it in the workshop today, and the Skyline will be towed there tonight too.

Hopefully on Thursday night we can get it running

Wish me luck!

Tried for bloody ages wiggling, pushing, pulling, raising, lowering, rotating - everything. Would it bloody sit on the gearbox spline???? Would it bollocks

Turns out the plates of the clutch werent both quite lined up and it wouldnt slip onto the second plate. Ive left it with my brother and his two workmates to go in early tomorrow, re-align the clutch plates and have another go.

Bloody cars
