Nice one, looks great!
I got the same to do shortly on the lights, but I found this link to help on the wiring side, hooks into the DRLs

yep I've seen pretty much all threads on this subject however they missed a trick.

The thunderbolts are the parking lights/sidelights so it's much much easier to apply 12v to their wiring in the IPDM. Otherwise its bumper off etc.

The IPDM has a spare relay socket with IGN 12v so just make up a 2inch piece of wire with a spade connector on one end and 2 Scotch-clips attached to the 2 wires in the IPDM. hook them up and bingo, constant thunderbolts. They draw less than an amp so its a safe bridge.

I have my DRLs on constant 12v too as I believe the newer cars' DRLs turn off with the headlamps.

I dont have access to a later car to completely check but my method should be sound on any year car.

If you feel like doing it yourself let me know and I'll help you along

I could make up a small kit for you to install if you fancy having a go

Bolts are on all the time, DRL's stay on but just go dimmer when headlights are on. Switch to sidelights and they blaze again, can't be used in that position at night unfortunately.

So, if you have any ideas, I'm looking for a mod that will dim the DRL's when the stalk is at sidelight position. At the mo, the DRL's are blazing bright with sidelights on (engine running) but the bolts look so nice it would be good to be able to use them with dim DRL's and no headlights in street lit areas at night.

So basically it would be a mod that dims the DRL's as if headlights were on

Interesting matey.

US cars have a different setup again.

I'd need a car from your year to check the voltage applied to the DRL wiring as it leaves the IPDM.

There are two scenarios that I'd need to test.

One is that the DRLs get a constant voltage regardless of stalk position and the DRL controller has separate wiring from the headlights to sense the headlight condition. This would be very difficult to mod as it would mean bumper off.

Second is that voltage applied by the IPDM is relative to the headlight condition and the DRL controller uses that to change the DRL brightness. If it's this one then that should be easier to mod as we can drop the voltage at the IPDM as it leaves leaving your DRLs dimmed constantly.

Anyone fancy letting me fiddle with their car?!

I don't know anything about electronics, just had to Google IPDM, guessed it's not Integrated Pest and Disease Management, haha, so power distribution module

If you could explain how to test it in fairly simple instructions I could probably do it, but don't worry if it's too long and complicated

Basically you need to undo the following:

Undo the battery retainer a little and slide the battery away from IPDM and towards the wing.
Next press in the two retaining clips at the rear of the IPDM on the top.
Pull the IPDM upwards (it'll come out a few inches) and press the lower clips that hold the cover in place. Then undo the single large clip on the top and pull off the cover.

There is a white connector lower right hand side next to the lower set of fuses.

This next bit is based on US cars and I haven't seen a DBA or later UK car to check...

There should be two blue/white wires in the lower right hand side of that connector which supply the DRLs.

Use a multimeter to measure the voltage on either wire during the following states:

Engine on and..
headlights off
Sidelights on
Headlights on

They'll measure 12v at some point and hopefully there'll be a voltage change when the DRLs change brightness.

Coolio. It'll be interesting to see what our U.K. DBA cars do to achieve what you've described.

That IPDM has a bit of slack in the wiring attached so will come up a bit. Don't worry if you don't manage to get it up far enough. Check out my pics above to see how far I managed to get mine.

If you can be arsed it is easier to remove the battery but I'm a dick who like making life hard for myself, you don't need to be so stubborn if you don't want to!

Edit:

Forgot to say don't look at my wiretaps in the pics above as they're meddling with the sidelights as my 09 exhibits different behaviour with the thunderbolt lights than your car does.

A slightly more than minor update...

So Paul at Riverside dropped the engine last week whilst I was away and set the wastegate actuators to 1.2 bar.
He ran it on his DynoDynamics dyno to assess how the actuators were performing...

These plots are from the base map that Iain supplied with a max boost of 1.2 bar just to test the actuators. There's no boost control logic on this map, just the wastegates opening at 1.2 bar as expected.

On this Dyno previously my car achieved 622bhp.

What this plot demonstrates is by adding in the Litch IC, larger IC piping, Tomei cams, ported manifold and runner and a rebuilt engine we've added another 83bhp for a little less boost than my old stage 4 (which ran around 1.2-1.3 bar).

Now we can start logging with more boost and really get this sucker moving!!

Awesome build, love what you've done cosmetically too. I'm a big fan of the OEM look but your mods are subtle enough to make the car stand out but not look 'chav'. I was out with another Titanium owner last Saturday (First time I've seen one in the flesh) and the colour looked fantastic in the sun.

How much boost and torque can you safely run on this engine and what power figures are you hoping for?

Thanks buddy for the very kind words. That "OEM improved" look is exactly the look I was after. And you're right, the titanium looks awesome in the sunshine.

We are slowly mapping at the moment (slowly because the roads are so wet here and Iain is snarled up at Litchfield's so it takes time to go back and forth with logs/maps) and max boost is 1.4 bar, 20 psi presently.

Boost max on these turbos is around 1.65 bar, 24 psi

The rods and pistons are Litchfield's own and should easily handle well over 1000hp, way below my goals.

I'm targetting 850 bhp with torque around 7-750 lbsft. We dyno'd the car at 705 bhp on 1.2 bar so 800-850 is feasible I think.

That's the torque limit of stock gears/shafts (I have upgraded clutch baskets and frictions) and beyond that its gear snapping territory.

The beauty of all this is the hard work is done in that the engine should be pretty bulletproof now it's forged and swapping out turbos for a different power/torque curve and output isnt a big deal.

To be honest though the response of these turbos is stock like anyway and it goes like stink even at 1.4 bar so Christ knows what 1.65 bar will feel like!

God yes! Iain has just upped the boost to 1.5 bar and blimey! We've still got another bit to go to get to 1.65 bar and it's brutally fast to the redline.

My nerves couldn't handle another 150-200 bhp top of this.

In other news...

Added a strut brace this evening. It's supplied in white for some reason so I had it painted and carbon fibre covered.

My throttle bodies are a disgrace but work and holidays have stopped me from getting round to painting a spare set I have.

Next job....

So the weather was lovely up here on Wednesday so between myself and Dan at Litchfield's we managed lots of road logging and multiple map tweaks to get boost control where Dan wanted it.

At 1.6bar Wastegate Duty is only 50% so these turbos have more to offer so Dan upped the boost to 1.7 bar.

At this point there are two complications:

1. Road logging doesn't show us what the torque levels are

2. OEM MAP sensors max out at 1.7 bar

So I'm booked in with Litchfields next Wednesday for a Dyno session to finish mapping.

Before that however I'm off to Paul at Riverside Racing later on this afternoon for a couple of runs on his Dyno to see what we have so far.

These TTE7XX turbos have so little info on them and what is posted on the web shows tuners running max boost of 1.65 bar. Really not sure why this is the case (might be because of that OEM map sensor limitations) but I might have just discovered that these turbos have more in them than first thought.

Very exciting times!!
