What to do with broken PC/clear hard drive

Best thing to do to clear away a broken PC (needs new motherboard, but very old tech, wasn't worth me repairing it). Just skip it or can i give it to a charity to fix and send abroad?

The hard drive from it has been removed and all the data transferred across, got a lot of family photos and old business documents on it. Tried to delete the folders when I connected the HDD to another PC but it was all locked down from deleting but I could copy it. Best way to clear it please?

Yes I work in IT but gave up on hardware a long long time ago.

Smash the HDD to bits. it's the safest bet.

One of the lads at work brought in 3 computers and I drove over them with a 200 ton crawler crane, they defiantly won't work again haha

use Hdderase or physically damage the plates (ten ton press would do nicely).

When I worked with guys who did machines for healthcare they used to drill the faulty drives to stop anyone from recovering any data.

If you have a very powerful magnet (big speaker magnets are good) they are pretty good if you don't want to smash things up. However, it is possible you might get data off it - never actually tried.

Jags & Tazz, haha there actually are documents there. Porn is available on the Internet with such ease who would need to download these days anyway? Though I won't comment on this anymore haha

Matty32, bucket of water a good idea, thank you. Might also do the drilling through it aswell. No 10 tonne press but I may see what I can drive over it!

Crush it in a vice or smash it to bits with a hammer...

Water will not damage all of the drive. If someone really wants to they will be able to access parts of the HDD still although through a lot of effort.

Blowtorch it.
