Nissan Noble Edinburgh £144ph labour rate?

My car is booked in for a 72m service and the Labour rate is £144 per hour including VAT. Is this normal for a NHPC? Never heard of that sort of rate in my life, even at prestige / high performance car garages.

Not sure anywhere caters for major services in my area. Apparentyl it takes a £4000 machine to reset after transmission Oil is changed.

Sheesh ... Ferrari labour rates were only £110/hour when my F430 was worked on last year.

I took my E46 M3 to a BMW main dealer back in 2008 and the labour rate then was £140 per hour.
Last year while my R8 was being serviced at Audi they called me to tell me they had discovered a water leak and and it should take no more than two hours labour at £340 to diagnose it..........I told them to Finnish the service and il take it somewhere else less criminal to find the water leak!

£144 p/h seems pretty reasonable compared to what some main dealers are charging these days.

I was paying £120 an hour at NHPC in 2009 so it seems about right. Still makes you wince though, just thinking about it.

Fair enough, if that is the going rate then so be it. It just seems outrageous for a service.

If it was work on the engine or transmission then fair enough because that is when it becomes specialised and you want it to be in safe hands.

Unfortunately it's the 'norm'. Bristol NHPC were charging £162 per hour a couple of years ago.

The good news is some NHPC's are now trying to become competitiive. My local one at Cribbs Causeway Bristol will price match any service, so basically they charge the same price price as independants.

It will be worth telling the service manager at your NHPC that, or at the very least ask for a reduced labour rate which most dealers will do as the car gets older.

Some of the so called specialists aren't much better.

They tend to have a few young lads standing around the cars and charge "man hours" rather than actual time taken to do the job.
