Unscrupulous unnecessary shenanigans?

So, the following advert has been on auto trader for some time at circa £86k. It suddenly drops by over £10k yesterday afternoon, strange. So, a bargain I say.. Turns out that car bizarrely sold at 8am today but guess what, they've got another one available immediately that happens to be exactly the same spec! Not so in price though, that one will be £85k, funny that...
Innocent marketing ploy get calls, attempt to drive down prices or a bit naughty??
Or maybe I'm just cynical...

It's possible that it might be true because shack turns around a lot of stock and most of the cars aren't his they are there on sale or return basis.

That car was originally advertised at 99.9k then dropped to 86 or 89 or whatever it was.

Would bet my car they didnt sell it for 75k, they just wanted to guage the interest in it.

I've always found all their stock is overpriced by similar amounts.

I think that could be Flynn's car, he has a katsura orange car with low mileage up for sale.

So you aren't interested in the car, you just phoned up to see if they are genuine. Trouble is people are accusing the seller of being a time waster. I'm wondering if some people might see it the other way around.

Relax. They are just trying to make a living. There's bigger problems in the world. Maybe you should turn your attention to Russia?

Of course there are, but this is not a political forum or thread my friend. Perspective or context could be requested in any seemingly futile post/comment, we all make them Adam... However my day to day continues as I'm sure yours does too. It was merely an observation of what I thought was shitty practice, but then I'm no salesman...

It's a pretty common tactic in sales. Advertise a desirable product for a low price with limited stock and then when stocks run out you upsell. If it didn't work they wouldnt do it.

I can't see how it has worked though Mook. All I can really see is that they had/have no intention of actually selling the item for the advertised price. I think they're wondering should they let it go now for a realistic price, or risk making a loss on it when the 17 plates come out in March.

Can't blame them for trying to make a profit, they were asking 99.9k for this car a couple of months back, but there doesn't seem to be many buyers in the GT-R market that are willing to pay a premium for jumping the Nissan 3 month ordering wait. My guess is we'll probably see it relisted at 79.9k.

Spoof car, lowered the price to lure you in and then tell you it sold only to then try and sell you a similar car for more money.

Shaks do this all the time, there was a separate thread on this somewhere. They had a Blue DBA advertised for about 4 months after it had already sold when I was first purchasing my car. What I don't really understand though is that surely telling a potential customer who's after a car at certain price, £50k as an example "Unfortunately that's sold sir but we do have a lovely example with the same spec for £60k" won't work?

When it was priced at £99k they didn't even have the car! I emailed them to say "you can't be serious", when they finally had the car it was then priced at £86k! I personally would never buy from this type of business, I will never pay the premium price and can't understand why people do. There's at least 5 cars advertised for a lot more than they are worth. Dream on I say!
