Big shout out to Knight Racer

Many thanks to Albert at Knight Racer.

Had a second hand Milltek Y pipe installed on MY17 last week. It makes a massive difference to the sound, so glad I got one.

The price was very good in my opinion for a supply and fit. Really good service from start to finish. (He even bubble wrapped my stock exhaust for me to take back)

Would definitely recommend them.

Nice. Couldn't believe the difference it makes sound wise, had my Russ Fellows fitted yesterday.

Have you guys heard a full titanium system? I mean not just the Y pipe but also the rear section. It transforms the car, a Y pipe is good but it's only half way there

Much deeper sound as it lets the air flow better through the exhaust as it takes away 2 of the 4 cats

Reminds me of 2009...!

Deeper, louder with inevitable drone at motorway speeds in 6th (70-80mph at 2.5-3k rpm).

The level of drone is determined by whether the y-pipe is resonated or not (even resonated can be droney) as well as if it's SS or titanium.

Trev is right about titanium. It's a very unique sound at all levels and rpms/speeds.

I loved my Titan but in the end the drone just got too much for me (and my neighbours!)

True to a certain degree but a bigger factor is where the exhaust pulses from each bank are merged. I'm a big fan of the Russ Fellows Y pipe because his non res Y pipe gives you the volume you want with out the drone and it's down to careful positioning of the Y section.

I'll agree to disagree with you on that one and there's a reason.

Keep the same y-pipe, resonated or otherwise, and change the back section and the drone will change depending upon the volume and length of the resonators in those back sections.

Sound wave reflection with constructive or destructive interference reduces or increases the drone.

The correct size, shape and position of resonator in the y-pipe is crucial as is the design of the rear section it's added to.

I should have been a little more explanatory with my previous post but I posted with the assumption of the back box always being stock.

And with regards the description of drone....

I've been in more R35s than I can count, had 5 different exhaust systems on my car, and drone is very much like tyre or brake pad choice.

Some cars I've sat in have droned like a mofo yet the owner has said they didn't think theirs droned much!

My systems have been...

- stock back section + Willall non resonated y-pipe (droned)
- titan 90mm two resonator back section + resonated y-pipe (droned)
- titan 102mm two resonated back section + resonated y-pipe (droned)
- RF original resonated back section + resonated y-pipe with two small resonators (droned)

Now I have...

- decatted downpipes with two large rear resonators and resonated y-pipe with large single resonator (zero drone)

That new y-pipe was added to my original RF back section and drone reduced but not enough to make a comfortable difference in the cabin.

I'm getting old. My car is louder than stock but not that it drives me and anyone else crazy. And has flames....

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks as off to Litchfield on the 9th for it's 1st service and optimisation.

Haven't noticed any drone though in that rev range. Sounds pretty standard up to 2,750rpm but then the valves open and it sounds sweet. Very happy with it so far.

I can't bring myself to blow the cash on a full titanium when the backbox is already titanium with 1k miles on it. Have other goodies that I'd prefer to spank the cash on at the moment.

Very interesting and nice post to see someone happy with the Y Pipe. About to take the plunge soon and bring the decibels up. Might just try the Y pipe Milltek and then at some stage go GTC SS.

Think he is happy because he has a valved exhaust ( my17 ) i have tried miltek y pipes res and non res and they both drone on the earlier cars the resonated verson was 90mm with to resonators - i have a gtc titan to try but not to optimistic it will change much

Yes very true Terry it helps massively with the droning. The reason why I didn't go for the full gtc titian exhaust was the warranty issues. Apparently the most you can do before voiding the warranty is change the y pipe.

Changing the rear section won't void the warranty, in the same way as changing the Y pipe won't void the warranty. Installing a Y pipe involves removing 2 secondary cats, which has has more effect on flow (slightly greater than zero) than changing the rear section. It would be illogical to void the warranty for changing the rear section but not for removing the secondary cats.
