New 2017MY owner, a few questions....

Hi guys,

I picked up a Catsick Orange GT-R yesterday after chopping in, with cash back, my Porsche 991 GT3. First Jap car for me after Porsches and M cars. Loving it so far!

So, as with most of my cars I like them louder than they come, Maserati Granturismo excluded!. The car has 2 years warranty left and the service pack so I'm thinking of the Y-pipe mod for now.

I've read that a few dealers are conflicted on whether it affects warranty etc. If I want one, do I get it fitted by an official dealer, if they will, or do I go to a specialist to fit it? Abbey Motorsport are close and Ancaster Croydon are my nearest main dealer.

Any other warranty friendly mods I should consider, mechanical or cosmetic?

Cheers, DC

People have had Y pipes installed by the main dealers and kept warranty.

Ultimately if you get it done at an independent, just keep the old one around so if it does need to go in for warranty work and you want to be on the 100% safe side, you can just swap them back.

Y pipe makes a decent difference to the sound and even though it's a modification I've never known of any warranty claims being affected or refused because of a Y pipe fitted. I purchased a new My17 from Nobels in Scotland and they supplied and fitted one for me as a sweetner in deal and I asked them if in the future this would affect the warranty and they said no chance. So I'd go for it makes a big difference... Personally every gtr should have come with one from the factory and a normal Y pipe will fit no need for special titanium one and it won't affect the electronic adjustable solenoids on the exhaust.

Cheers. What Y-pipe did you go for? Are some better than others?

Oh, and you're not far from me, I'm near Purley.

A fair deal I'd say. Happy with it which is the main thing.

I knew I had other questions!...

Can the mirrors fold when you lock it?
Can the passenger mirror dip when reversing?

Not without mods.

Catsick orange! It's a lovely colour in the sun.

Have you noticed the ASE yet? Any switch into R mode activates it, and it is very loud played through the speakers. Most people claim not to notice it though, so I'm assuming they have hearing problems.

Oh, that's a shame especially with the dipping passenger mirror, that's saved my alloys countless times!

Yes, the colour is lovely and limited my choice of cars as it was the only colour I'd buy.

And no, haven't even had it in R mode yet. I know the car is better than most in crap weather but it has been truly awful with floods and thick fog where I am. It looks better today so I'll go for a spin at lunch time

How do you find it compared to your previous GT3?

Sterile?

Clearly a very different car and not really that comparable if I'm honest. It's certainly faster in this shitty weather. I bought the GTR as a middle ground between the GT3 and my M5 and it certainly fits that bill.

I'm loving it's usability so far and that was one of my bug bears in the GT3. It was very low, very firm, difficult to park (no sensors, a cage and a wing) and was so mileage sensitive as I'd put a load on mostly in Europe. I'd fallen out of love with it too.

I need some more time, dry weather, a trackday and Euro trip before I really know. Ask me in July
