Hakosuka Spotting

Never got around to posting this picture of a Nissan Skyline KPGC10 I saw last November at race wars. Really cool car and it was the same event I saw the R34, and let me tell you I liked this car more than the 34. The Hakosuka is so basic and looks old school. The smell of the car was great, smelled like an old car and you can never beat that smell! This car was featured in Super Street and I talked to the owner. Really nice guy and spent about 5 min talking. This car is just something I'd want, and you're getting your money's worth to be honest. Even the lesser models are good, but I'd go two door since it looks more sleek in my opinion. What a beautiful car!

It's not a KPGC10. It's a KGC10.

GT/GT-X, not GT-R. Originally fitted with an SOHC 12 valve non-crossflow L20A engine, not a DOHC 24 valve crossflow S20.

How can you tell the difference between them? The car has a GTR badge and the hologram 'SKYLINE' reflecting from the spoiler. I could never really tell the difference between the GT/GT-X and the GT-R since there's not that much written information about them on the internet.

The GT-R emblems and the rear spoiler mean nothing in the grand scheme of things. Plenty of people bolt those onto lesser models. There are many other things on the car that it never left the factory with, and also many other stock parts have been removed.

Twenty feet away is usually enough to tell the difference between a real GT-R and the average lookalike if you know what to look for. The exterior photos on this one tell the tale enough (I'm not going to tell you how...) but the interior shot is a slam-dunk. That shift knob is bad enough, but have you ever seen a KPGC10 - especially in wannabe race car guise - with a full electric windows switch panel?

Power windows were stock equipment on the GT-X, and an extra-cost option on the GT. They were not available on the GT-R.

Whoa! The more you know. I've read about the Hakosukas and damn are they such beautiful machines. In terms of price between the GT/GTX and GTR, what kind of a price gap is seen? I've been on a couple of Japanese import sites and some don't even put the type of trim they are and no engine pics. Yeah, I wasn't a huge fan of the design he did but it's his money. Kind of looked like bosozoka. I just liked the simplicity of the Hakosuka.
