Would you be put off buying or treat it as a positive??

Been in the market for my first GTR for a while now and viewed a 2013 premium edition last week. Looked through all of the paperwork (full Nissan main dealer service history) and noticed that the car had a full engine rebuild under warranty due to "catastrophic bearing failure" at a cost of £16k, only 200 miles ago. There was no mention of any of this in the original add for the car which I thought was strange.

The car itself only had just over 30k on the clock and was advertised with an independent dealer who took the car in part exchange against something else.

Would bearing failure indicate the car has had a hard life previously or could it have been caused by the likes of a failed oil pump causing oil starvation? There was nothing in the paper work to suggest a cause of failure.

Would it put you off buying or would you treat it as a good thing that it's had a full engine rebuild?

Rebuild by whom and to what standard would be my first questions. But if it isn't mentioned in the ad I'd be wondering why.

Yeah that's the one. Is that your car in your Avatar sitting in Craig's detailing unit in Port Glasgow?

Engine was rebuilt by Leeds Nissan according to the documents.

When I was looking for one just after Xmas I was tempted by that one. I thought good price for a 2013. Never actually viewed it but rang Sterling a few times to get details on it. They said it had an ‘engine overhaul’ but that’s all they could tell me about it, i was still interested provided they could give me some more details of reason for failure, who rebuilt it etc. They never got back to me so I left it.

It has been for sale about 6months now. If I bought it I’d be worried about other parts potentially damaged during the failure gone un-noticed during rebuild.

I think they were offering 3 months warranty with the option to extend to a year for a price.

I went to see it as I was passing there last week. They couldn't tell me the reason for the failure but the paperwork from Leeds Nissan detailed all of the engine work and the only cause listed was "catastrophic bearing failure". My concern was that if it's been hammered that much to cause the bearing failure in the first place, what's the knock on effect to the gearbox, diff etc.

Probably the most important thing is who put it right?

SRD or Litchfield?

It was rebuilt by Leeds Nissan. If it was done by the likes of Litchfield or any of the other reputable independent specialist I may have been more keen to buy it. I've been stung in the past with warranty work from main dealers hence the reason I'm a bit more cautious.

Exactly my thoughts. I'm in no rush to get one so would rather wait it out until the right one comes up.

If Litchfields had built the engine then I would’nt be put off.

I find it a little strange they did’nt swap the engine and actually rebuilt it.

Be smart.... any used car will have visible history and hidden history.. this car has proven history. That doesn't make it a good car.

So either take a chance or move on.

But any car is risk. Even if its been through Litchfield. Cause you don't know what's not been declared with the sale info...
