![]() Alright chaps and chap-ettes.
Hope you're all good. I'm gonna start this off by saying that I don't consider myself to be an arrogant knob ![]() All's it is, I've been looking at personalised plates lately, my missus suggested it because she got one last year from NetPlates and she loves it (but she also loves The Notebook...). Anyways, come 17/01/2020, it'll be a decade since I got Greta, my beloved GTR. so the missus says she will buy me this number plate JA17 GTR for it's birthday celebration. I'd normally tell her to sling it (in a nice way if poss) but in all honesty a part of me loves the idea. I'm so sentimental with most things, but Greta's been there through so many up's and down's I pretty much consider her to be almost like a family member. JA17 is her birthday! The difficulty comes from when I've had a look online and seen that the general consensus seems to be that you're considered a knob if you drive with a plate that's related to the car model... Which is so bloody annoying, to me, I will know it also stands for Greta, the name I gave her. Yes, obviously I named her that because shes a GTR, but nobody else will know that... See, if you're driving down the street and see a 2010 GTR with JA17 GTR as the reg... What would your thoughts be? Would you even think anything of it? Once I give her my answer, she's looking to buy it ASAP while it's still available, so any help at all is much needed! I'm hoping to give her a straight answer by Monday... Perhaps that's achievable, perhaps not ![]() Cheers all.

Not sure but wouldn't JA17 GTR only be suitable for cars registered after 2017?
Anyhoo don't see why it would make you look like a bell***, but maybe I'm biased as I've recently bought a GTR plate too. Helps people realise it's a GTR if they haven't already lol

If you want a private plate just get one, who cares what people think.
However i think you will find a problem with putting a 17' reg plate on a 2010 gtr. You cant make an old car newer with a 17 plate... if you get me. Plenty of tools out there on the net to check if you can and cant.

You can't put that plate on your car so that's an end (bell-end or otherwise) to it really !

I have just this weekend brought a GTR plate, I couldn't careless what other people think, can't wait to get it on the car! Unfortunately you 100% can not put a 17 plate on a 2010 car, sorry.

I'm not a fan of personalised plates myself (though I recently "had to" put one on one of my cars) but each to their own and the owner is entitled to do what they want and my thoughts about what they do with their car are / were irrelevant (I'd also now be a hypocrite to criticise anyone else for doing that; which I never did anyway).
The point I'm making is that, as long as not done illegally, you do what you want and forget what anyone else thinks! Their opinion is exactly that; their opinion. It should hold absolutely no relevance to you or what you do with your car (though some may believe that their opinion is more important; but that is another story ...). As has been pointed out, you cannot put any plate on the car which makes it look younger than it is (so nothing after a 10 or 60 plate, depending on whether yours is an early or late MY10 registration). JA10 GTR, for example, will be fine; as would JA58, JA09 etc. ...
