59 plate GTR
 
Hi All,

I've just joined at the request of my Brother who doesnt use forums, so i'm just helping him out.

He has a 59 plate GTR and has had about 6 months of trouble free motoring, then last week he was driving along and suddenly had an engine management light come on and the message "Take to dealer" and he lost all power and the ability to change gear.

He got it trailored to a garage and when he got there the car could be driven and change gear as normal, the garage has since had a look and it seems to be driving ok other than a noise from the rear when turning.

They have plugged in an ODB2 reader and its come up with the following error:

P0848 Transmission Fluid Pressue Sensor/Switch "B" Circuit high.

I wondered if this was anything anyone had seen before and if so what would the likely outcome be? dodgy sensor? correct reading from the sensor but high pressure caused by something?

Any info appreciated.

Why post on here? Go take it to a dealer or tuner and get it checked and fixed.

Sounds like the car went into safety mode when it detected the fault. Best thing to do is get it to a GT-R specialist and have them check it out.

I’ve got a 60 plate and it has never done this, but once had a loose battery terminal and it through out a code and put the engine and transmission lights on. Drove OK though and just needed to be reset. I think my code was P0607 or similar, so not the same as yours.

Well I thought this might have been a friendly place to post to like minded individuals with a an interest in these cars and a wealth of knowledge and experience at their finger tips to be able to offer potential solutions and ideas.

Would your brother be willing to have the car recovered to a specialist for inspection ?

If so I recommend auto torque in Aylesbury
Probably the closest gtr specialist south of England
Don’t know of any specialists your way unfortunately

It will be one of the pressure sensors in the gearbox failing. They stop working when they get to approx 80C and then are ok when the box cools down again. Contact ACSpeedtech in Warrington or Litchfield Motors in Tewkesbury who will be able to fit the Dodson replacements and carry out the recalibration which is necessary after the replacements are fitted

I'm puzzled why anyone who owns a GTR or any car, which has a problem, would sit on their phone and ask for advice rather than go to a mechanic and have the problem diagnosed and resolved....

That makes no sense to me. Every answer you get on here will be at best guess work... thus pointless.

No need to be puzzled, over the many years of various performance car ownership we prefer to build and not buy. As such the ability to identify and fix issues, research the problem, build and enjoy your creation brings joy to some, a skill that seems to be deminishing in the world today, as you have made apparant. :(

I prefer to do my own work on my car I've got a set of ramps, plenty of tools and time, if I'm unfamiliar with the problem I find out on line what it is, how to repair it, then sort it.

ACS are a good shout but sounds like a good trans fluid change and clean is in order.
