Had my 33 for 9 years and loved it.
Whenever I've watched the Japanese reviews the 33 and 34 have always been neck to neck on the track.

Yeah, Folks are always prepared to slate this car for having a larger diameter exhaust and running more boost than OEM but forget to mention the balancing factor of all the added extra weight from the full Roll Cage, Oil Coolers, Fluids etc, etc....

The 2L fwd NA JDM fd2 civic spanked the r34 around Suzuka 2:35.20 along with a few others and some say Hondas arent much to write home about

Not saying they arent good cars, obviously....... I own one and have impeccable taste.....but the hype overtakes the reality.

I suppose in 1995 the hype was somewhat justified.

Life is full of contradictions.

The BNR32 came out in 1989 so imagine what a shock Motoring Journalists had after driving that waaaaay back then....Mark Skaife and Jim Richards dominated the Race Tracks and helped cement its "Godzilla" nickname.

The BCNR33 model is better/quicker! What hype did it not earn or rightly deserve jdm4life?

As impressive as that 8:01.72 time is, True enthusiasts know the real R33 GT-R's time below :-

Cannot argue with photo evidence like that!

The R33 became my favorite over time. When i was in my teens i like the R34 the most. Over time the look of it wasn't appealing and I started liking the 33 more. Maybe the timing was bad with the R33 and how the racing scene was at that time, IDK.

It's also a group N car.

34 was either slower than 33 at the Ring or was not faster than the contemporary 911, which is probably the reason why Nissan did not publish a time for the 34.

But....We enthusiasts know this is most likely to be true :-

Don't forget the Roll Cage, Diff cooler and Fluids adding all of this extra weight! And BTW, we've had this conversation here too :-

This \/ was good enough for me then!

And still is Iain....

Nope. Not when Nissan's own press don't even quote a time.

Where is the proof of the time quoted above? It's just some article talking shite. Look at the quoted weight ffs.

So much hostility towards us. I agree there's a good number of jackasses here, but with all this space and people it's tough not too.

There's a few good ones, I promise.

I'm from Europe, but have lived in the US most of my life. Will agree that you can make money off of Americans super easy, especially if you want to sell something JDM to the younger crowd. That is why I love the country though, capitalism is amazing.

I just hate how they sue here too much and how they don't use proper units of measurements. They also call petroleum a "gas" for some reason.

The hype was somewhat justified back in 1995. The R33 GT-R was faster than 993 Turbo around the Nurburgring. There are a lot of questions in my mind still as to how this was done. I'm willing to bet it was running 1 bar of boost on stock turbos. Just under 350 whp. Coincidentally not too far off from what a 993 Turbo will do stock.

But to do 7:59, even with the nonsense Nissan was pulling is impressive. One can only wonder what would've happened if Nissan was not handicapped by the 280PS agreement and was able to release a ~500 hp RB26 like what was in the prototype R33 GTR.

I've not long come back from a trip to the ring, (first time) I managed 4 laps (9.30mins was my best ) can not wait to go back and try and get into the 8 minute mark!

Funnily enough I was pulled up outside the track to take a photo under the Nurburgring sign and a white R35 pulled up behind, owner got out and said 'R33 GTR, the best one they made' no lie!

Arh yanks..Spent 5 weeks there in may and heading back in a couple of weeks, perhaps for a few months. They are a different type of human for sure.

Last time was my first trip to America and it was an experience!

Heres a bizarre skyline encounter to add to my list..

I went in a Wendys on the way back from a bike ride in Lyons/Boulder one nite and the guy looked at my t shirt and said....

You got a gtr?

Yeah.

He then proceeded to micturate on himself at the news.

Then a smoking hot latino chick overheard the conversation. When she was told I had a GTR she seemed to literally start creaming in her pants. For some reason, I took quite an interest in this. She then shouted to her friend Hes got a GTR!!! and they asked to see photos....... anyway....They are busy looking at photos on my phone of the car and my food arrives and then I eventually leave.

3 folk in there were pissing their pants was pretty funny all from a t shirt I was wearing. It turns out i was rather distracted by all of this and I left my ****ing cash card in the card machine there which meant an hour drive back the following night for my mate to retrieve it. Sadly she wasnt working that night :/

An amusing and bizarre story.

These cars do seem to create all kinds of weird encounters. Ive had a fair few in my ownership. Yanks are GTR daft, clearly.
