Gearknob park issue

Removed the gearknob to refurb it and in the meantime parked the car in the garage by manually pushing the white stick to change gear

Now when the gearknob is back together the car won't go from Drive into Park any more. Its like the shifter is not pushing the white stick down enough to get it into park.

I'm wondering if the white shifter stick has moved beyond its limit or something, but having taken all the surrounding trim out, I can't see any way of moving it higher.

Any pointers please?

Had a similar problem doing my nav unit.

If your not doing it right with the knob off then you can get a pin stuck. This sticks out of the side of the white stick inside the linkage. It forms part of the gate to stop it from going into park while moving.

The item labelled lock (B) should return to up like in the first pic as the shifter is moved into park. If the release is used to override the lock (B), then it may not return to the up position. What then can happen is the pin will go over the top, underneath or push the lock to one side. This will not fully engage park and can damage the lock.

Go back down to drive. The mechanism should reset. Without pressing the button, move to neutral. Depress the white stick about half its travel and move it to reverse. Without pressing the button, move into park. The pin will pickup the Lock as it moves into park. Do not force it as the pin and lock are likely misaligned.
