Cars Older than 10 years are To be banned?

What fcuktard euro t055er came up with this

Banning/restricting cars over 10yrs old. This is on the .gov website too.

"Several EU proposals across the years have been dangerous to the classic car movement. One that has been under consideration is to ban the use of cars older than 10 years. Similarly, Edinburgh City Council is considering the banning of cars over 15 years old from the town centre. These, and similar, proposals directly threaten the classic car movement, and encourage the manufacture of new cars, with the attendent environmental issues of sourcing raw materials, manufacturing, distriuting and scrapping the spiralling supply of new vehicles."

You would be banned from using the roads and only allowed to take the vehicle out having obtained PRIOR consent from your local council.. I.e youd have to plan your route in advance and inform the council for approval who may then decline the whole thing or certain aspects like perhaps if you wish to pass through a city centre etc...

sign the petition here:
Petition to: Reject any proposals to ban or restrict the use of older cars.

And our friend Red Ken is doing the same thing with Diesel engined vehicles in 2010 ....

"The Low Emission Zone could go live as early as February 2008. It is also proposed that by 2010 the scheme would be extended to heavier diesel engine light goods vehicles and minibuses. From 2012 the emissions standard for Heavy Goods Vehicles, buses and coaches would be tightened to Euro IV standards for particulate matter."

So if anyone wants to buy a nice blue Merceds 13 tonner ... or we'll have to pay £200.00 per day for turning left out of our yard

luckely this is complete bull*hit.

i remember seeing this a while ago.

so what are they doing then? people who are studying are always low on money. so they have to buy a car which is about 5 years old, or else they wont be able to sell the 9 year old one. they have to get massive loans for everything, getting them further and further in debt.

some, wouldnt be able to pay anything, which will result in that they could become homeless....only because they had to take out a loan for <10 year old car

The real reason behind it is a raft of EU mandates for new cars including the mandatory fitting of a satellite transmitter for all new cars after 2008. It limits the politically damaging scenario of having to retrofit tracking boxes at the drivers expense if they have already got rid of most older cars.

How about banning people who don't own their cars from public roads instead? That'd reduce congestion and massively alleviate BMW road rage.

This is yet another stealth tax and an artificial attempt at boosting the economy, particularly in the financial sector. Pretty soon, we'll need loans for everything. It'll be like early '90s Russia, inflation that even Mugabe would shudder at.

I very much doubt that this is being considered by our government.

All we are looking at here is a petition set up by a member of the public, who states that this has apparently been considered in a couple of loony EU proposals and by Edinburgh City Council.
