what's the official designation?

people already referring to it as r35.

Nissan took pains to mention that it is not a SKYLINE. It is simply GTR. But nobody will ever realise what they are saying..

Everybody on the internet are calling it teh new SKYLINE GTR. And now the R35.

So what is the official NISSAN designation?

Someone in the know (DCD?) posted something like...

Nissan CBA-R35 GT-R

...a little while ago.

Well AFAIK the "Skyline" designation has been dropped in favour of only "Nissan GT-R"

As featured in April '07 Japanese Performance

Top Gear - JC - "I thought when i drove the Mitsubishi Evo X the other day, that there was no way the GT-R could be worth twice as much money, I mean I just thought no way it could be twice as good, but it is!"

They dropped the Skyline since this isn't a Skyline with a good engine, it's a seperate car. e.g. Skyline 350GT & 350Z are called "FM" the GTR is "PM" in Nissan speak. It's all marketing I guess.

yes i also know that SKYLINE is out of the name.

but it looks like it may really be the R35 though if moleman is right about DCD, and if DCD was right about that :P

Wouldn't it be more logical to call it R36? I say this because in Japan the V36 Skyline is already in store.

this is the GTR we are talking about here.. if you read properly, you would realise that the new car is NOT a Skyline.

Previous GTRs were R32, R33 and R34. The next logical designation would be R35.

Wrong, in the past the R32, 33 and 34's were Nissan Skyline RXX GTR's. tis the truth. There has already been an R35 skyline...hence the Nissan Skyline 350GT...it isnt logical to call it an R35, but I have seen it and I thought it was on official Nissan doc's.

PS, the GTR we are talking about here is obviously a brand new car/platform without any sharing...yet.

Its only caught on as the R35 as the chassis number or something like that starts in CBA-R35

that car was the g35 in the usa, and the v35 in Japan. Sorry mate, no R35 there.

When talking about GTRs, in the past there was R32, R33 and R34 GTRs and they were all SKylines. Regardless of the fact that the new one is not a Skyline, it is a GTR. The last GTR was..??? R34 GTR.

Anyways, .. i've now confirmed off Nissan's website that it is indeed CBA-R35.
