Got the car weighed at the scritineering bay at Snetterton. Its a bit heavier than I'd hoped.

1356kg without driver. Thats full TimeAttack trim plus aprox 10l of fuel, 7.5l oil etc etc

car has GRP door, rear wings, boot skin. Lexan windows (doors, rear 1/4 and rear screen). All interior stripped, full cage, 2 buckets, lightweight battery etc

I weighed it before the doors/windows were changed and it was 1350'ish... so who knows.

Funny, as well as Paw weighed 1240 at Snetterton and 1090 at Oulton - car had less fuel at Snett as well - and spec was unchanged between the two.

Not many scales are as accurate as is claimed, the only way is to always use the same scales for comparison purposes.

That is crazy. I thought it would be a fair bit lighter then that. Maybe even close to 1300 but i guess the cage weighs about 45kg?

That's circa 140kg less than mine (full trim with added weight!). I'm surprised that you've saved that little extra weight with all the work done. Though if your cage weighs 45kg then really you're closer to 190kg saved.

If you get a moment you might want to weigh your wheels. Some of the supposed quality wheels are much heavier than you'd think. If it's any help my 18s were 18kg with tyres (which was circa 3kg lighter than the supposedly lightweight 17s previously fitted).

Hi Adam,

What did you do for frames to support your door windows?

Needing to sort something out for my R32.

Thanks

Hugh

as per FB Hugh.... but i'll put it here anyway

We havent used any frames as I didnt like the idea of more weight, never mind the unsightly mess that goes with them.

We went for the thicker pre-formed door glass kit from Plastics for Performance.

These are just bolted to the GRP door along the top lip and round the triangle bit for the wing mirrors.

To prevent the top popping out of the rubber seals at speed we've inserted a couple of threaded bars (M8) through the inner skin to push against the base of the plastic window. This pushing on the base 'pulls' the top in. To close the door you need to press down a bit on the top of the plastic window for it to locate in the seal.

I saw one done with an aluminium edge about 5mm x 35mm which was black, and at a glance it looked like a perfect edge around the window, (on the inside obviously)very stiff and very light.
Basically formed a frame that normal cars have
Carbon fibre would be the obvious thing to use now,

Just went threw this thread, and noticed lots of nice roll cages. Anyone fancy to give me some of their measurements? Im looking to do a half cage for this year (welded in) But I would like to try and do it myself first. I like the design with the "X" in the middle.

Would really appreciate it! Time attack is soon!
