Ive stripped all the sound deadning. Now I have to drive it in my pants with both windows down! It get so hot that Im going to put some heat reflective stuff between the car and the gearbox. I reckon all the sound deadning stuff wieghed 25kg cos I put all of mine in a bag then played guess the weight with my mates. We had no scales but 20-25kg was the agreed amount.
I made my power steering pump from a twin pump into a single one. You just have to machine the centre shaft down, but it has to be just right. Lots of filing adjusted the length and shape of the end cos I didnt get it right on the lathe 1st time. At the time a single pump was £175 secondhand but a few hours work saved that for other bits. My pump works fine. I have glass doors, plastic windows, carbon seats, carbon door cards being made by an F1 team that Im not supposed to mention etc etc. Havent wieghed it yet but its got to be light.

There is a beam behind the rear bumper apparently that weighs 8kg also. Mine will be gone soon!

4 stone of body weight to lose and Ive done the lot!

Adam, yours car weight of 1360kg is probly or as close to the lowest that most people will be able to get their R32 down too.

I have a few light weight aero bits (boot, doors, mirrors) and have probly added about 4kgs LOL with the rear diffuser and canards at the front.

I think if I manage to get mine below 1350kg Ill be happy.

Im also going to have a good look at the engine bay. I no Im going to remove the air con, HICAS bits under there, possibly power steering and go electric (saxo unit?), ABS, battery re-location, washer bottle re-location, remove metal cambelt and plug covers.

I wonder how much you could save going single turbo?

Heres a good little mod which is also beneficial to the engine/running. Fit a headlight duct, probly a 5kg saving!

Im looking at getting 2 compact titanium rear silencers (1 for each turbo) and putting them just behind the front wheels with a small balance pipe just before them. I reckon that will save loads as Ive exhaust wrapped my whole system cos of the heat and its heavy being stainless. I want to get under 1300kgs somehow.

Anyone know of a carbon dash at all???

Yep the Ti exhaust is a good way to lose about 15Kg.

The problem Im looking at is going to trackdays where noise is an issue. Im thinking of getting a custom system made up that should keep the noise down but keep the performance.
Looking at a twin system to exit both sides if poss, if not then both passenger side. Id have the extra few Kgs if its going to allow me to attend and run at some trackdays and events.

Keeping the noise down is no easy thing, I had a 4" stainless system made a few yeras back with three silencers and it was still pretty loud.

Most recently been running a 4" titanium one with one rear box - it fairly pisses off the neighbours.

On a weight related note, do any R32 models have windy-up windows?? I dont think a dedicated track car needs electric so it would be a decent weight saving to replace the electronic gubbins with manual winders. By the time you add up the weight of motors, wiring, actuators and the rest of it I reckon it'd save a fair bit.

Anyone have a definitive figure for the weight saving from using a solid HICAS lock bar?

also - any guides on fitting (replumbing PS pipes really)

When I did mine I heard that if you remove all the pipes front to back and the reservoir etc it saves 27kg if I remember right. Seems alot though. I made my twin pump into a single pump Adam so I could get rid of everything relating to the rear steering. You have to take it apart and machine the shaft then reassemble using only the front half of the pump and the back plate (you will see what I mean when you take it apart). You have to weld the pipe up too. Saves buying a 33 pump!
Im getting a carbon dash made this week and he has time to make another cos my mate has dropped out. Just a thought If you want to get well into it! Also I will have some carbon door cards made by an F1 team for sale soon as well (they are the nuts) and I will be selling some GRP doors soon also as I have 2 sets so 1 must go! I have pics if you want. Carbon stuff is hard to find thats any good.Thought it might help you.
