    hi mate, the plate behind the flywheel hide 4 x bolts that hold the sump to the block, you cannot gain access to them with the flywheel and backing plate on, so the gearbox needs removing and the flywheel and backing plate. in situ means with the engine still in the car mate. its a twat of a job to be honest. the oil pump wont slide forward even if you remove the front pulley because the pressure relief valve drops down and fouls the sump. this is why the sump needs to come off. sorry.

    what is situ? why remove the flywheel backing olate??? any way to replace oil pump with engine in car? john
