Non nav GTRs have no way of inputting directly to the AV system other than by using an FM modulator.

This splices into the FM aerial on the lower AV unit and allows iPhone to play through a frequency on the radio. It is hardwired so doesnt suffer interference and the sound is very good.

I have the Dension system installed in my GTR and I wrote about it almost 3 years ago here

Sound is pretty good and allows phone to function as normal, music returns after a call.

Why?

The Dension kit works flawlessly and saves you spunking thousands on the nav car.

Not having satnav is not an issue. I dont mind getting lost in the GTR :) and spending hours driving trying to find somewhere.
However the sound system was a big plus and nissan did not explain the music box in enough detail. They said mp3s would play on the box etc. But when ive tried, it has to rip from non Mp3 audio cds, and so far the music CDs i have tried, do not rip the auto track name etc, so im going through manually adding the details. I thought this was what gracenote was ment to do ?
Will take a look at Dension kit

MP3s I'm pretty sure will play of a cdr if you put it in the drive, but can only rip from full audio cds.

I got around this by buring a cdr from itunes with playlists and all data on the disc.

Dont forget the Gracenote database maybe up to 3 years old (as in my case) so will not have newer titles in it.

The US cars have a CF slot from which you can update the gracenote database but thanks to NIssan's odd, odd way of doing stuff we dont get that so cannot update the database.

The clunkiness of the AV HDD setup meant I fitted the Dension and havent looked back since. Works a treat and I also run the Camalert app on my iphone for camera sites, and also use Copilot 8 for nav.

All works flawlessly through the radio on 87.7, and controlled from the iphone itself. Add in a Brodit holder and it's OEM-lite.

the early JDM cards had a compaq flash card socket where you can play MP3's from, dealers saw this and thought all the cars had it

You should be able to get up to 7 of your favourite albums on an mp3 cd if you like it that way. Iv never had an issue with track names on audio cd's. Just make an audio cd on your pc and make sure that write on cd is ticked. All i ever have to do is edit the album name and artist when ripped on. Easy. Even for a Window cleaner like me ! lol

I have a 2009 non nav model too and this has been p1ssing me off for a while. However - I've just done some Googling on CD Text support for Nero burn - I remember that the AV Unit has support for CD Text.

It seems with Nero burn you can add this onto CDs that you burn. So would this work:-

Rip/Download the album you want to put on the GT-R.
Burn it with Nero using CD Text support
Insert disc into GT-R, Hit CD Text
Hit record

Would that get the track/album data onto the AV unit? I won't be in the car until Sunday, but I could test it then....

I also have a 2009 EDM non-satnav model and I burn all my CDs with Nero - not a single problem with cd-text for now.
As far as I remember, you have to dig in the settings in the GT-R itself and there was an option to copy the track details from the CD, try it.

What is the USB port in the satnav cars for? Does it play mp3s from flash drive?
