hi.-

you can use the diagram from my homepage and build it.

X2K.dk - GTR white - LED 4 lights tail
Sorry mate, I thought you were talking about the side reflectors lighting up as on some US models.

I have done the tail / brake light think as per Ossie cossie's / Protegimus's thread.

Would like the side markers though. Might have a look in the better weather.

Regards Satan

Found this thread confusing at start, but most helpful during the process.

Done mine tonight following the last diagram with 4 diodes.

Made a separate loom on the bench then fitted it to the car, only having to make four solder joints in situ, as apposed to doing it all in situ.

Total time 3hours
Total cost £1.24

Thanks all.

That's VERY good! Exactly like the MY11+! I hope the Litchfields kit I'm getting installed operate that way too.

Standard connector pinout - I used 1N4001 diodes. The feed from the brake lights to the tails lights (diodes A & B for four brake lights with sidelights off, which is optional) is already spliced:

Now the brake light feed is cut ready to splice in the 180ohm metal film resistor and diodes C & D:

Hi there,

Looking to do this mod, just been on maplins website, there seems to be hundreds of diodes and resistors.

Could anyone help with part codes from maplin's?

I noticed you used 1N4001, on the maplins website there seems to be 2? There is a 1N4001S & 1N4001G cant seem to work out the difference..

As for metal film resistors, theres a couple hundred to choose from?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers in advance.

If you feel your competent to do the job, go for it.

Can be a little time consuming, but a little time and care will leave a nice finish.

If you want a quick hassle free option, pm [email protected] for a kit.

I have to be honest, whilst doing mine, I did think to myself, I should have bought a gtc light kit.

Will see if I still have the original packaging and pm you part numbers.

Hi,

Any luck with those part numbers?

Cheers

Diodes: IN4001S is all you need (code: QL73Q - all IN400x series are rated at 1Amp so any will actually do)
Metal film resistors: 180ohm 2W (code: D180R)

Just to update the thread I managed to put together this harness with some help from Protegimus (top guy ).

Brought 8 x 1N4001 and 2 x 180ohm 2W resistors, some shrink wrap, some used speaker cables from my local stereo guy, borrowed a soldering iron and even solder from my friend and just like magic, managed to build the harness.

NOTE: I'VE NEVER SOLDERED IN MY LIFE! ALSO I CAN ONLY DO THE SIMPLEST DIY'S LIKE CHANGING A LIGHT BULB.

CAUTION: IF YOU DO DECIDE TO DO IT, MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT IN A RUSH AND DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING. I TOOK MY SWEET TIME AND DOUBLE CHECKED WITH PEOPLE THAT KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT ELECTRICAL WIRING.

I followed the last diagram posted by Protegimus and prepared the wiring harness in the office before going to the car to connect up to the loom. For us idiots in electronics, make sure that you have the diodes facing the correct way.

Ossie cossie, Protegimus and all those that contribute to the DIY :thumbsup: You guys are champs!!!

Cost me like $2.50GBP in materials, a little time (actually 7 days :p) and some courage. Cutting those 2 cables I had to hold my breath. :D

Skills needed:

1. Can splice a cable - Practice with some spare speaker cable if you need.
2. Can read the diagram posted
3. Can do a little soldering (youtube is very useful for this :p)

To disassemble the rear I followed this link:

http://www.gtr.co.uk/forum/118460-step-step-guide-fitting-zele-4-light-kit-colour-pictures.html

Hooking up the DIY harness I used tape instead of soldering as I do not have power points in my underground car park. I just twisted the wires together and taped them tightly together. (you get a sore back working on the rear)

Guys just to clarify, do you need to wire one of these 'harnesses' into each side? So you need to make 2? - I've just done the first one and installed it and the passenger side lights work exactly as described - 4 tail lights and 4 brake lights when the tail lights are off.

Thanks digi, made a trial one last night - worked a treat. People have been waving at me today keen to inform me that one of my 4 brake lights isn't working :)

+1 would like to find out!
Would it not make sense to employ an auto electrical engineer and we maybe split the costs towards developing a kit?

Pm me if you would be interested in this and we can put one of our cars to get this resolved once and for all! I'm sure we could get a finished plug and play product....?
