Just an update for anyone interested, finally everything been sorted and the part is now ready and waiting at Westover Bournemouth. The car has been booked in for Tuesday to be fitted, and will take little less than an hour :)
will they tweak your mileage on the new unit? or will it be 0

You're a lucky guy dean.... Nissan gave me a massive F OFF for exactly the same fault and the same Nissan garage.

I'm going to remove my unit myself and send it to my wife's uncle who happens to be an electronics specialist on the euro fighter. He has all the testing equipment to find faults on PCBs. .... If he can fix a fighter jet I'm sure he can find a small fault..... which someone said earlier is probably just a dry solder joint.

I'll keep you all posted if he's successful

I am guessing you have used Litchfields/SVM etc for servicing/work, as the only reason I got the unit paid for was because my car has stayed within the Nissan network for servicing.

No, full NHPC service history. Plus owned other Nissan including a skyline. I got a 'NO' because I bought the car outside of the Nissan network - aka privately.

Can we assume that Nissan know full well that excuses such as not buying your car from a main dealer or having it serviced at a main dealer are not legal and would not stand up in court ?

Yes, but from the other side, it is a Good Will gesture that they do not have to fund or help with in the first place.

But as others have said, it's a non-serviceable part and it should not be failing in a couple of years or so. It has to be fit for purpose for a reasonable period of time. And if they keep failing then there is clearly an inherent defect, so again, warranty period does not come in to it.

Cannot disagree with that, added the fact that they did 5 years on non-nav and 3 years on nav versions, make no sense whatsoever. Every other part of the world they extended it to 5 years on all models.

All I would say now is if your GT-R is coming to 4-5 years old keep a close eye on your audio unit. See too many failing day by day now.

I am just happy mine was covered by Nissan and I can have my Bon Jovi back ;)

Oddly, mine ( 3 years old ) froze the other day. Then it sprang back into life, then it froze again, then started working again (all in the space of a few minutes). I took the CD (it wasn't Bon Jovi I must add ! ) out and that seemed to fix it, it's been fine since.

I did wonder if it's like Windows with a dodgy CD/DVD - i.e. it can quite happily hang your PC even on the newer versions of Windows.

I have an issue with mine and nissan said they will pay half for a recon unit so all I need to pay is £300....
Says on the previous page that a reconditioned unit is £1100 so that better than half price!

Yet again no consistency from Nissan as well as bollocks reasons for turning work down.

Just curious if they adjust the mileage on install

I was quoted £700 for a reconditioned unit fitted.

If units are reconditioned then it's safe to say whatever the issue is, its repairable. Looking forward to when someone actually identified the issue and works out its a 20p fix thats then being charged at £700 - £3000 depending on what INDY / Dealer to you speak to.

The mileage will not be affected by a replacement radio unit. The mileage is set to zero when the speedometer unit is replaced.

There may be an easy fix for these units but we have to send the old units back within 5days to Clarion so we dont have any spare units to play with unfortunatly.

My price remark wasn't a dig at specific dealers, they're just under the umbrella of Nissan and have to abide by the rules and fee's they're given.

But Clarion and Nissan must know the issues and costings of the fix. If I was Nissan and had a frequent faulty item such as this I'd be asking my principles as a distributor what the hell is going on.
