Just a quick question, was wondering if anyone has or knows how much it costs to import a car from Japan into the UK, including all the duties and taxes and sva and all the rest of it.

I have seen a few cars ranging from about 3,500,000 to 5,000,000 Yen that seem great, was just wondering if anyone has in the past imported privately and would have some hints and tips they can pass on, and how much those prices would equate to , as on the road prices here in the UK.

Many thanks

very easy but the import tax and VAT once you get it here puts the price up loads. Then you have to register it in this country at the DVLA and they can be a bit arse in my experance,

if you want to do it get a shipping agent there is pently out there and it makes it easier when you go to customs as they do all the paperwork

Any idea how much this costs on average for example if i take the top top end that im looking at. So say 6,000,000 Yen

Any idea how much a shipping agent etc.. would charge for all something like that value to get landed here and ready to roll.

I think it works out at approximately 25/30% on top of the price of the car to Ship, VAT, Register and SVA the car... So if your max is 6,000,000 YEN you should be looking at cars around 4,000,000-4,500,000YEN...

Someone Correct me if i am wrong...

the COST price for a 6,000,000 yen car in Japan will be £41,500 on the road over here.

I can break it down when ive got 5 minutes, but thats running it through my import calculator which inlcudes everything !

Shiping, Duty, e.t.c.

Take your for sale price,

6,000,000
Add any dealer/auction markup Y
Add Shipping Y115,000 (ish
/ by 192 to get £

£31848
x 1.1 to add import duty
£35033
x 1.175 to add VAT
£41164
Add about £500 to that if you do all the SVA/ clearance and reg work yourself.
and hey presto...
£41664
(I know that's what you said chris but it's usefull to see the calks so you can work it out on others)
Oh yea you also need to add about £3K to insure the thing and £800 for cat1 and tracker...

REG FEE £ 25
PLATES £ 35
DISC HOLDER £1

TOTAL COST ON THE ROAD UK £ 42479.32

YOU COULD ALSO ADD SEAFREIGHT INSURANCE FOR THE FREIGHT IF YOU WANTED AT ABOUT 3% OF THE CARS JAPANESE VALUE AND ALSO MUST THINK ABOUT 'E'MARKED AND SPEED RATED AND LOAD RATED TYRES WHICH MOST IN JAPAN DONT HAVE SO EXPECT TO BUY SOME UK TYRES OR BORROW SOME FOR THE SVA TEST.ALSO WORTH NOTING IS THAT THE YEN PRICE YOU TRANSFER TO JAPAN FOR THE CAR WILL NOT BE THE YEN PRICE THAT CUSTOMS USE TO CALCULATE YOUR DUTY AND VAT DUE, THIS CUSTOMS RATE IS SET EVERY MONTH USING AN AVERAGE OF THE MONTHS RATES BEFORE, SO YOU MAY BUY IT AT 195 YEN TO THE £ BUT WHEN IT ARRIVES THE RATE MAY HAVE FALLEN WITH CUSTOMS TO 180 YEN SO THEREFORE MAKING A DIFFERENCE TO YOUR OVERALL PRICE FOR THE CAR, OBVIOUSLY IT WOULD WORK BOTH WAYS AND YOU COULD SAVE MONEY....

HOPE THIS HELPS, LAST YEAR WE IMPORTED AROUND 2000 VEHICLES INTO THE UK AS AGENTS FOR IMPORTERS (INCLUDING THE UKS ONLY SKYLINE 400R) , MAYBE EVEN MORE, WE ARE ALSO PROBABLY RESPONSIBLE FOR CLEARING ABOUT 300 SKYLINES AT LEAST IN THE UK ALONE AND IMPORTED AND SOLD ABOUT 90 CARS OURSELVES JUST LAST YEAR AND WE ARE JUST PLAYING WITH THE SCENE, IF ANYONE WANTS TO KNOW MORE, YOU CAN ALWAYS EMAIL US AT [email protected] AND WE WILL BE HAPPY TO HELP FELLOW SKYLINERS.
