I am pleased to start this years list off for the Asda Charity Day. It will be much the same as last year other than the mayor of Lutterworth and his supporters will be running the entry gate and so the event is supporting the Lutterworth food bank and they are asking for every car to bring in a packet or tin of food to donate. Could the club itself donate something a bit larger please? Roger???

It sounds like the hotel is busy this year so if you are staying over the night before, please book asap.

For those who have not done this event before, I will summarise.....

For the last 13 years the GTROC has supported the ASDA sponsored On-Your-Marks charity event at Bruntingthorpe Airfield and our members are once again invited to bring along their cars and get out on the Bruntingthorpe track and provide passenger laps to paying guests in order to raise money for good causes.

However this is just a part of what has become a huge event and a great day out for our members and their families.

The day includes a massive number of displays and attractions from air displays, car and motorcycle top driver stunt displays, helicopter rides, 4x4 and rally car experiences, go karting circuit, 40 ton lorry drives, clothing sales, food, and of course track laps with a number of invited car clubs.

Our involvement means we need a large number of experienced members to provide their cars and driving skills taking out passengers for fast laps of the Bruntingthorpe circuit.

This is a hugely rewarding and fun event and many times the GTR "pit area" has seen the biggest queues and most money raised.

The official website with last years details on is here - On Your Marks | Charity Event Day sponsored by ASDA

You can get a good idea of the day from Malcolm's video here - clicky (Apologies to anyone with an Italian exotic car for my comments!)

I will start a list off. Please add your name to the list if you can come along. You do need to have some track experience as you will be taking passengers out for "hot laps" with safety in mind. You also need to be a GTROC member and wear GTROC branded clothing on the day.

We also need cars for static display and helpers to run the GTROC Pit area. The helpers are just as important on the day as the drivers as we will be really busy.

Please take time to read the details below from the organisers John and Chris......

On Your Marks has always been about seeing and doing the unusual, below is the list of confirmed items for this years show and we hope we have kept up that genre of the unusual. We only ever book the Worlds very best entertainment for this show.

We will be at our usual venue, Bruntingthorpe Proving Ground, Leicestershire. This has been our 'home' for the past 13 years and is ideally suited for the type of day we organise. Admission price will be £10 per car and a voluntary donation of a tin or packet of food for the Lutterworth food bank who will be running the admission gate with volunteers.

The hotel deal

We have confirmed our usual special deal at the Hinckley Island 4 star Hotel for just £55 per night per double room or twin for 2 with breakfast (from 6am) included, that’s only £27.50 each, for the 8th August, and the same deal for the 9th August 2014.This will be the last year of this special price as the hotel wanted to put the price up this year.
If anyone does want to take advantage of this fantastic deal, all you have to do when booking (Telephone 01455 631122) is quote our reference 'OYM55' and you will get the £55 rate. UPDATE BOOK ASAP!
Just across the roundabout there are 2 local pubs, the Hinckley Knight and the Three Pots Harvester where you can get good quality beer and food at a very reasonable price.

On Your Marks charities

Well we must be mad but we are going to do it all again on the Saturday 9th aug 2014 at Bruntingthorpe in Leicestershire, and this year we will be doing the show for "Orchid “ the Male cancer charity. At 14.00 we open a special Pitts area and we ask all the special cars to take around some 20 very special guests from Wishes 4 kids and their family’s.

On Your Marks | Charity Event Day sponsored by ASDA

Our WEBSITE is up and running so you can look for all the information you might need, such as maps and information on the day. There is also a face book page, just type in On Your Marks and you should get to it.

Why we do it?

On Your Marks started over twelve years ago, we had a driver called Mark Hickingbottom, who was dying of lymphatic cancer after serving his country in the first gulf war, we approached the owner of Bruntingthorpe (David Walton) and asked if we could have a day with some trucks and a few cars on the proving ground, and he said yes. This went very well and we made £7,500 for his family but unfortunately Mark died a week before the event.
The car clubs that came on the day asked if we could carry on with the event, so we approached his family and asked if we could do the day in his memory and use his name,
Thirteen years down the line we have raised over £316,000+ for cancer charities, and if you add the money the charities have made on the day we must be well over £375,000, and we now get
20,000 colleagues, friends and family there on the day. An indication on how big” On Your Marks "is now, on the first year we put up 350 metres of plastic safety fencing, well this year we have just ordered 6,100 metres of steel safety fencing that’s 6.1 kilometres’.
We insist that the charities are there on the day and that some of the sick children can hopefully attend , then at 14.00 on the day we open a special Pit for them and call all the special cars in for them to get in and go around the track for free and their parents and siblings. This is very special and is the pay back for all the hard work that Chris and myself put in, we both walk away with a tear in our eyes,
The companies that help us put this on, and the deal is that their employees can come as well and enjoy the day ,we have to give a special mention to A1 cones , they have supported us for about ten years now , and without them we could not put on this extradinary show,

A.1.cones they come in and put out over 1,700 road cones, and then pick them up the same night and sweep the track for 8 hours on the day before the show so the track is really clean,

N.F.T. will be supplying two trucks to go on the track with instructors.

Fresh link support us with two trucks to go on the track with instructors.

Jungheinrich they supply us two forklifts for the putout and the uplift which takes us four days to put up and two days to take down.

Malcolm's transport they supply us a rough terrain forklift (JCB).

Cotts U.K... They supply a trailer of almost out of date pop to sell to colleagues on the day (otherwise they would put it into the landfill).

Scania UK they supply the Show trailer that fronts the Asda National Driver of the Year and new trucks for you to drive at the show.

Sorry about all that info. If you want the details from the organisers emailing, let me know.
If you are doing it, get your name down.
If you are staying the night before, book the hotel asap (phone bookings 8am to 9pm).
We can discuss the night out later!

I'm in Dave! (obviously). Booking hotel room tomorrow and will see about donation food parcel etc.

Going to book hotel room for Friday and Saturday night so see you all there. Harvester was horrifically busy last year so perhaps get an earlier table? They got to the point of serving warm wine out of half pint glasses at one stage as I remember........

For all of you thinking of doing this for the first time it is an incredible day and nothing like the buzz of taking the passengers round - Mr Miskin will be even more noticeable this year hammering round in the Smurf Mobile (get him his own gate?) and always an amazing crowd helping and this year let's see if we can raise the most money (again).

We should also ask that the put us in Program as GT-R Owners club as we are always GT roc for some reason and perhaps offer to proof read the program this year..........

the hotel deal is online but is a tenner more (they said it has not gone up so have queried it). Sorry I posted this too late to allow you to book tonight.

Did someone mention the seafood restaurant for food last year?

Will ask John to put us in as GT-R Owners Club. I think it said Malcolm last year as well rather than me organising but I was not too bothered.

Booked my room for one for £55. Bit confusing as she seemed to think it would be £65 for two? I have asked John Forde to confirm.

No problem :)

Again, those who haven't attended, you really must do. Even if you don't drive on track come join in on the fun and go out in other people's cars with your friends/family and pay the £5 for charity. It's a great day and strange enough the only event each year that I try my best to attend!
The rally experience is fantastic and if a Time Attack car comes be ready for the shock of your life! Did 192mph in Marcus's Time Attack R32 on the runway there, GPS verified!
