IIRC they had a problem with the engine blocks, and wearing too much

Double Vanos probably (if on this car). 1 in 5 fail usually around the 60k mark sometimes with some bad results :bawling: .

That's one of reasons I went off the idea of an E36 Evo.

M3 Engines

unusual for BMW but have heard two stories from different M3 owners:

BMW never carried out a re-call but have replaced many early M3 engines under warranty.

One owner mentioned some problem with the head / valves.

Another owner mentioned some problem with a coating on either the pistons / cylinders that was been attacked by some European / UK unleaded fuel.

Story has also had a mention in readers letters section of Evo magazine.

Appologies for adding to a for sale thread.... but I'm sure BMW will have re-engineered the problem.... and as an all rounder (comfort/performance/track capability) the M3 is an impressive car.

Good luck with sale
