my farther used to work for borg warner in s africa , gearbox specialists if i can remember correctly , and they helped develop the new " GTR " box :bowdown1: didnt know they done turbos though

Borg Warner make some of the best turbos there is, same as Holset, but as they dont have the"cool" name of Garrett or HKS or whatever people dont get em.

IIRC most/all of the fastest Supras in the UK run em.

They are what was Schwitzer turbos, before BW took them over.

Now that's the kind of repsonse I like! Doesn't anyone know enough to suggest a model or size to get for an RB30 600bhp build? I was thinking some kind of diesel truck again. same as the HX40 Holset.

An S366 would be a good choice.

S366 is fricken huge man, I'd go for a Borg Warner S361 tops for that power level. A dude in the states is using a Borg Warner S372 I believe on an RB26DETT and making some pretty huge power.

Borg Warner is actually trying to promote themselves in the performance turbo scene now,they are working with some guys in the States in the import racing scene and are willing to help out and work with just about anyone in sizing and arranging turbo types.
They're very progressive now and have been around forever doing oem,truck and industrial turbos .

BWTS supply around 40% of OEM turbochargers (petrol & diesel).
MHI supply the rest (well almost!).

You'll find IHI and Garrett get a pretty damn healthy amount of use as well.

Some good info coming here.. I will look into the S361. Is this a truck turbo by birth do we know? I will try and contact Borg directly and see what I can find out.. I have to say Holset are not at all helpful. I find it very strange.. you would think making a mark in the performance turbo sector of their market would only mean good things for business but they seem dead against it! and say their turbo's are strictly for diesel applications! and would advise against using them in any kind of performance petrol application! LOL!!

Can someone let me know what sort of A/R ratio I am after and housing/impeller sizes? There seem to be a lot of options out there for the Borg warners.. More common than I expected! What is an A/R ratio for starters!? Exhaust:compressor? I guess the sizes stated 80mm.. 63mm etc are of the impellers!

No offense man, but if you dont know enough about turbos to be able to pick the right spec yourself, then you really shouldnt be trying to buy one yourself.

If you dont know the effects of the a/r's, the wheel inducer and exducer sizes, etc etc, you going to get nowhere fast.

Esp as there are a LOT of available options on BW ones.

I have a rough idea! Just not 100% sure on everything. But as per most of my posts I am trying to learn all the necessary info to make sure I do the right thing! And hence asking for lots of information. I don't plan to just go out and grab any old turbo! Firstly I need to know what is going to be suitable for my RB30 build and intended power! If I already knew all the answers myself there wold be no need for me to write the thread in the first place!

I am not too offended by the way!:chairshot LOL!

Didnt mean it in a bad way, but its jus way more complex than most seem to think, esp when there a huge amount of compressor and turbine options on BW turbos.

You cant properly spec a turbo without knowing the full spec of the engine, and you cant fully spec an engine unless you know what turbo you getting.
Basically, doing it properly, you spec the engine and turbo at the same time to work well together.

So is there anything set in stone, ie anything youve already bought/ordered, or a power level you going for, or how you want it to drive, etc etc etc.
I could give you my opinions if I got something to go on.

Talk to Bullseye Power, they make a lot of custom BW turbos that make a ton of power and spool fast.

I suggested an S366 because it will make a TON of power, and they spool very, very fast. A bunch of honda guys are running them and spooling them as fast as T3 .82 A/R GT3582R's

Hi Guy's,

I have not bought anything yet! I am trying plan my budget first so I don't buy anything unnecessarily! I have a rough plan and some thoughts on parts.

I am planning an RB30 build with an RB26 head. I will use a standard non- turbo RB30 bottom end. And put the R26 head on with some mild cams.. I am thinking 264 HKS or Tomei but need to look into that a little more. I am hoping to get around 600bhp. I already have an Apexi Power FC ECU ready! will be looking out for some injectors.. size wise I am thinking I need 650cc ones?? I have Apexi induction currently if that can carry over.. and I am looking for some Z32 MAF's for the fuelling. Also know I will need some kind of uprated fuel pump. So that's about where I am at the moment!

How to Choose the Correct Turbo.

SteveN, Being that I am on a mission to learn about turbo's so I can choose the correct one I was searching google and found this link.. What you all reckon. If all the info is correct on it I reckon that's got to be worthy of being a sticky!?
