Hi Ron,

Should be there by around 11.00 I hope, I'll give you a call. Just spoken to Frosts about entering next year, looks like I won't be! Tigs could though I think...?

Peter,

I believe you need to have some sort of racing license...OR (so i've heard), need to be a member of some Hove car club.

I've thought about finding a way to enter a few times, but have never looked into it fully.

I remember 1 skyline from last year - an R32 with no rear wing.

Yes, you're right Daz. I've not rung the club yet but I was told by Frosts that you need a race license (not sure what level) and you need to have raced 8 times with it before they'll let you in.... :(

Apparently this year's entry is bigger than normal so everybody is stressed out sorting out the last minute arrangements.

You need to be a member of the club hosting the event, you need a min Race National B licence (I have one! soon to be upgraded to A!!) and you need to have a lot of luck to be able to enter as they are always over subscribed!! I may enter next year...am going circuit racing though so will have to see!!

Nah

but you must be able to get em at Tesco's or she never would have got one, she must have done the old ' buy one get one free' jobbie on the bacon and got a free racing licence instead of bacon:p You should have stuck the the trollie tigs, hehe;)

Ive seen this event on telly before and it looks good, racing up the seafront road down there, I think you need to be a pro driver cos of the amount of spectators around just feet from the cars, last thing they want is Daz GTIR, arm out of the window, stereo on, doing donuts at the end of the drag strip, They keep it quite professional down there from what was said in the TV and thats probably why is difficult to get into. I know the Mayor of Brighton Peter if you want me to ask him about getting you in, he's a personal friend of mine and has involvement in the event.....

I take it that was just an example dirk ? otherwise .... (dunno where you dug that donut, stereo, arm out the window stuff from)

Oh and you don't need to be a pro driver...there are plenty of people who enter who are not professionals. There's a GTI-R owner who's been in it the past couple of years - with a less spec than mine, and done very well. Last year he was in the top 5 for the 4wd group, and the year before he was in the top 3.

The quickest 4wd car last year was an old escort with full rallycross rolling gear - and it posted a 10.4 quarter. The GTI-R ran a 13.0 and the R32 skyline a mid 14.

Yeah, last year had a damp start - but by lunch it was seriously hot - i got a rather burnt head last year ! Nick Welch knows all about the Escort - so hopefully he'll be able to offer us more details (as i've forgotten !).

Most of the cars that run are driven there, and driven away again...a bit like 10-of-the-best. They normally have some beautiful machinery down there - F50's, F40's, F355's, F360's, GT40's, etc. etc.

Last year they had a Chrysler down there that had previously run a 7 second 1/4 at santa pod....serious bit of kit - but had major traction problems as the surface isn't particularly flat and you could see it bouncing around.

I also remember seeing old F1 cars down there many years ago - like Tyrrell, etc.

My highlight is still watching Trevor Nation on the JPS Norton (rotary) doing the whole quarter on the back wheel and crossing the line at some ludicrous speed. Last year a couple of bikes crossed the quarter at over 180mph.....

Lookin' forward to it.

Guys,

Can I drive there or is parking going to be too bad? Whats the best thing to do.

PM or mail me, so as not to clog up this thread.

Cheers

Lee i drove last year and parked in an NCP - ended up costing me about 20 quid for the day.

Parking in and around the area is a complete nightmare - unless you turn up ridiculously early and park away from the seafront somewhere (i've been successful doing this in the past).

This year, i'm catching the train !

Daz,

Do you know or can you find out what this guy had to do to get a place. I'd love to enter next year as it's the only motorsport type event in the town or anywhere near here but not if I have to start racing!

Lisa,

Only kidding.....

Andy,

The mayor is actually my next door neighbour and can't seem to place you. You sure it was our mayor you know so well. ;)

Gus,

Sure thing, give me a call 07780 675925. I'm not expecting to stay all day though.

Lee,

Daz is spot on, it gets a bit chaotic but you'll probably find somewhere within a 15/20 minute walk from the front.

Peter,

All i know is the guys name - Simon Paul. He has only post once or twice on the GTI-R yahoogroup in all the years i've been on there. Getting hold of him could prove very difficult.

I'll see what i can find out for you though.
