Sorry this isn't skyline related......

Been on broadband just under a week (blindin')

For those of you who are on broadband but aren't running a firewall i recommend you get one ASAP.

I've been getting around 15 to 30 port scans, pings, etc. every evening. People looking at all sorts of ways to get on the PC. The firewall has blocked every single one of them (leaving my PC safe).

I can't recommend it enough.

Not sure what's available to MAC users, but i'm using the free version of Zonealarm (downloadable off the net).

Cheers,
Daz

I installed ZoneAlarm a few months ago and then deleted it to make more room on my pc.
I have just installed it again about 1 hour ago and since then I have had 3 potential hackings! 1 of them only just happened:(.
I am going to teach them a lesson and report them to their ISP.
Yours,
-Elliot

I've been a long term champion of ZoneAlarm, it's the paranoia you see ;)

It is a great piece of software and I recomend everyone uses it. However it is worth noting that it does not capture everything, and running a different firewall product is also advisable.

I run Windows XP Pro, and use the built in firewall (it is very poor), I also use ZoneAlarm (very good), and PCCIllin2002 which is an antivirus tool, but comes with a firewall tool too. Both ZoneAlarm and PCCillin will report potential security threats, that the built in XP firewall misses, and they also report on stuff that each other misses.

Generally speaking though ZoneAlarm is very efficient at sorting out the good from the bad, and if I couldn't run 2 or 3 different firewall products, then ZoneAlarm would be my first choice.
