Hi, new man here with first post. I am also currently looking to purchase my first Skyline (am having to give up motorbikes after an accident), so went over some of the previous posts with interest.

However, who is Dirk ? - [from a previous thread] "you can get a GTR for the money you have, speak to Dirk on here who can source you one"

Dirk, are you the "man", are the monopoly commission currently looking into you :-> ....

On the same subject - are there lots of mistreated and dodgy examples out there ? - is this a minefield to buy S/H and you need to tread carefully with well known and respected dealers?

It is always wise to get one which is known to the board members here.

If you import then you are taking a chance one way or the other, I was told by someone who is quite prominent on this register, "only by a car from japanese auction if you can afford to lose the money." perhaps a bit pessimistic but you get the idea. there are lots of happy self importers and there are some very disgruntled importees as well.

Andy seems to get some very nice cars.
If you buy from this country ask about the car on here, if it is advertised on here then the chances are people will know it or of it. See if it serviced by the bigger skyline specialists, Middlehurst, Abbey, Rod Bell, Gary, option etc..

If you just run off and buy the cheapest one you see you will probably get disapointed as cars are holding good values at the moment, you could get lucky but I am always sceptical of really cheap cars. what you save in the inital purchase you will probably spend with extra on top putting it right.

Obviously there are real bargains to be had but you must be careful if you buy a bag of nails for 12k expect a 5-8 thousand bill to sort it out. this then puts you in the mainstream prices for an R33. Of course there will always be someone out there who has found a gem for 12k but I have yet to see one. then again I haven't won the lottery yet either !!

hope this helps.
There are lots of threads about buying skylines on here so have a mooch and don't be scared to ask questions.

Dirk the mysterious?

It still does not explain who "Dirk the mysterious" is?

I am now starting to obsess that this is some form of Masonic society, where I will only be shown his true form, after undergoing a bizarre ritual involving my trouser leg, an old fuel-injector and un-translated Japanese driving manual.....

The mystery continues...

So "Dirk" is really "Andy"?

You folks like your codenames and intrigue.....

Andy or Dirk - if you are out there, contact me on the email address below, your deep cover is assured (use the password phrase of "the moon jumps over the wall comrade").

Seriously Andy or Dirk, give me an email I am interested in your powers of acquisition.

thanks.
