Hi peeps,

Can you tell me what the hell all the "lift" and "260" stuff is all about. I get so confused with it all!

Cheers in advance.

lift is how far the valve opens
duration is the period its open for

less is more
ie chose the smallest cam that you think you can get away with
260 degree is a mild can suitable for fast road use
320 degree cam is wild F1 profile that would be a pain in the ass for everyday use

simplified enough i hope

Longer duration would give better power at higher revs, as would higher lift, as you'd have more breathing possible. More lift requires renewal of the valve springs which means the head must come off to make the change.

Idle will become lumpier depending on how wild the cams are and emissions will also deteriorate, but engine performance is improved at higher revs.

So what would be a good set up for fast road/track use?
It depends on the spec of the rest of your motor/turbos etc
For fast road use Tomei Poncams give lovely response or if you want more top end Tomei Procams but it really depends on the other mods you intend to do and whether you want drop in cams or ones that require uprated valve gear/head off.
