What is the general consensus on de-catting regarding the trade-off between power gains and increased noise? What are the experiences of BHP increase with de-catting. If it's only a few BHP with a lot of extra noise, I don't think I would bother. Cheers,

Just removing the cat will not do that much... it's when done in conjunction with new down-pipes, full "race" exhaust and performance air filters ... that makes a heck of a difference.

The amount of noise is down more to the exhaust system you go for .. it'll be louder and deeper in noise whatever, but there are various extremes of this :D

Noise

Hi Hamish
I had a full Nismo system on my car and upgraded to hks downpipes+ decat pipe
As Joss says slightly deeper in sound but not really noticable in volume.
But what a differance in performance
Go 4 it, definatly worth it
Best regards

But is the extra performance mainly due to the free-er flowing exhaust system and not the de-catting? What extra power on top of that gained from fitting a performance muffler and front should I expect from de-catting?

De-cat

That would be a answer perhaps a tuner would be able to give!
My answer would be the quicker the exhaust gases can escape the better it is for the engine as in breathing/cooling/power.
As a decat pipe ranges from £50 to £75 and can be removed and the cat refitted surly it must be worth a try.
Is it that you are worried about Mot,s if so just replace the cat for that week or so as it only bolts into place.
Or get to know your local Mot station.
Hope this is of some help
Best regards;)

exhausts

As you guys probably know, here in australia we have to have cats to pass our epa test(enviromental protection agency)for roadworthy.

My gtr is stock and im going up the performance ladder and i want to install an exhaust.

ive been told that a set of
greddy front pipes
greddy power evolution exhaust
and high flow cat should do.

do you guys know of another setup that is better flowing or gives more hp.

does anyone have experience with this package.
its for an r32 gtr

Greddy / Trust

I have pretty much this setup on the R34 (though Greddy/ Trust do quite a few different exhausts! Power Extreme, MX, dd, TR, BL , etc.) and am very happy with it.

Cheers
