Thats a simple principle!
In the industry we are using the quarz pressure measurement devices for in cylinder pressure measurement for years now. Hooking a camera to it with a very thick piece of glas is nothing new!
There are also glass engines used to research the burning capabilities of a combustion chamber and the pistons!
