I've posted a few threads now about rebuilding my GTSt engine, well the time for this to happen is rapidly approaching so I put together a bit of a finger in the wind price list for a bottom end rebuild.

The cost for the parts came out to about £2k ish - this was with nothing fancy, standard inlet, standard cams, forged pistons, standard rods, new bolts bearings uprated HG etc.

The dilema is this - that in very similar price teritory to the RB30 engine that R32Combat has been posting about recently. Do I go for a rebuild or an RB30? I'm not aiming for massive power, just to make best use of the current turbo (HKS GT3037) and I'd like a responsive driveable car with a good spread of power.

thoughts please?

RB30 with your RB25 head. I'm not sure how this works with under bonnet clearance if you use the RB25 inlet manifold.

Go on, break the mold:)

2k for parts??

I made a list, and got £1450 for a RB26 build with new metal head gasket, Wiseco pistons, new std cambelt, head bolts and oil pump, HKS inlet/exhaust gaskets and all new turbo gaskets, ARP rod bolts, ACL bearings, and allowing for a machine shop to skim the head and bore the block.

I reckon you should be able to have the bottom end balanced and built for you for not much over £2000 !

it's a rough list but I got
Pistons £600
HG £250
other gaskets £200
bearings £200(ish)
Shot peening rods £300
bolts £100(?)
rings £200
oil/water pumps £400(ish)

that's £2250 without cams or cam gears...............

note that those are all rough guesses but I thought kind of in the region.

RB30 all the way:D

nice and drivable extra torque off boost.

if you have trouble with bonnet clearance then you could always go for a greddy plenum, about $500 on ebay IIRC.

good luck.

An OSG RB30 will cost you £10K

A proper nissan RB30 will cost you about £100 in australia

Mine cost about £1700 built.

I think the nissan one is better value for money.

cost depends on spec, where you source it from and how much work you are prepared to do yourself.

if you search for the RB30 thread posted by R32 Combat you can see lots of info there :) but basically for the block, pistons, rods and other work £2k ish is possible.

So why dont we all go and by rb30's from austrailia? If i could by a second hand 1 and re build it, all done for say 3-4k is that not the way forward?

Is it esentily the same as the rb26 but 3.0? what did nissan fit them in?

1. it's not a 'proven' tuning route over here yet.
2. most people want an out of the box solution.
3. you buy from Abbey, RB, RK et al and something goes wrong you have some form of comeback.
4. it is similar to the rb26 - holdens I belive and the nissan patrol??

We don't all go around with an RB30 because,

1) They think they are inferior.
2) They don't know they exist.
3) They don't know where to buy them from.
4) They don't look on the other hemishpere's forums.

The list goes on.

It's very close to the RB26, after all, its still an RB engine.
£4k from Oz would get you a very good one.

NOT THE NISSAN PATROL!!!!!
