Does anyone know the frontal area and the drag co-efficient of the 33 and 34 Skylines.

I imagine the drag co-efficient is around .35Cd.

From the Technical section of this website (www.gtr.co.uk):-

The R33 has a Cd of 0.35.

The four way adjustable rear spoiler gives verall Cd of 0.39 with 18o of wing! (0.37 at 12o and 0.36 at 6o).

I've never seen the R34s Cd written down, but I've seen a graph that implies that it is the same as the R33 but that the wing produces more downforce for the same drag.

(I don't believe this however)

possible!

reduse parasitic drag on the wing leaving only indused drag!

its probebly cos of the way it split

eg look at f1 cars

True but ...

what I don't believe is that the R34 has the same 'clean' Cd as the R33 :)

I do belive the wing's effects :)

Might it have something to do with the front bib and rear diffuser on the R34 ?

The Best Motoring GTR DVD had all the Cds listed for all the models....I'll have to take another look. What I do remember is that the R34 had a slightly poorer Cd compared to the R33.

Right here is what I found out from the DVD:

R32: Cd 0.40
R33: Cd 0.35

R34:(with the 4 spoiler settings)

Deg Cd CLF CLR
0 0.36 0.01 -0.06
10 0.37 0.02 -0.11
20 0.38 0.04 -0.17
30 0.40 0.05 -0.20

GU5I 80Y...the DVD is a compilation of tests carried out by the Best Motoring crew. Its in Japanese and with all features counted it lasts around 3 hours. A must-have to say the least. I think Shin at Prospec can get them from Japan

Dino,

Do your sources also show what the frontal area of the cars are.

Once we have the frontal area it should be possible to calculate what the forces acting against the car are and estimate maximum speed against BHP for each model.

Hugh, I might be able to find something along those lines....I think there was an article on the R34s aereodynamics in an old GTR magazine...
