Hey all! On Monday i had my map updated to run with the ecuTek bluetooth interface and App on iPhone.

Its superb so many cool features, however i have an issue with the "Pops on Shift" feature. And was wondering if anyone else is having the same.

When The Pops on Shift is activated, hard acceleration (flat out) when it changes gear is hits a massive fuel cut, the car holds back massively (it does pop on shift aggressively) but the car almost cuts out for 2/3 seconds before accelerating again.

Now i know it's just a party trick, but pretty sure it should not be acting like this.
I am still waiting for a reply from my tuner, so thought i would share here also!

Just don't use it, it's a shit options that just slows the car down and will cause you issues, well it already is, but you get the idea! Just forget you ever had it installed.

Could be anything really, it's not fuel cut you are hitting, it's a timing cut, there's loads of fuel LOL

Thanks for the reply, and i understand you think its a "shit" option. But there must be more too it.. And i was wondering if everyones does this?

nope it's a god awful fudge to make the car do something it's not designed to do that ruins the way the car drives, at no point is it useful and if you change gear at anything less than 5500rpm on anything less than WOT (but over 85% throttle as I think this is the activation point on most) the car jerks and jumps and basically feels like you are going to blow the crap out of something, it's not smooth, it's counter productive, makes you look like a spanner most of the time etc etc.

There really is nothing more to it, it cuts the timing on shift when activated and throttle is over 85% to produce a back fire, that is literally all there is to it, the car isn't designed to do it and the more you use it the sooner you will realise it's shit LOL

The painful thing is that the advent of twin clutch gearboxes enables us to flat shift.

Check out the acceleration curve of the car and you will struggle to see the shift points.

That in itself is a massive performance bonus.

Then you go and ruin it and tinker with the engine at the shift points to interrupt the smooth power delivery and actually make the car slower, less reliable, less efficient, less legal and even dirtier.

Genius.

I understand, and i doubt i will ever use it, it's just there so i was asking if everyone else who has this feature behaves the same.

But as of yet, i guess no one has tried it to even see.

If you didn't know, at the flick of the button, it turns off :p

Have you consulted your mapper? (Just saw you said you emailed him)
From using the shift pops myself the pop and cut is instant almost as quick as pulling the paddle.

I have it on my map and its the most horrendous useless piece of (malware?)

Does nothing apart from a few bangs and jerkiness, suspect it doesn't do that transmission much good let alone any of the other engine components.

In the three cars I have personally been in with this fitted they all do they same, the effect is worse at lower RPM.

I think Tony has actually answered your question; if you are under 5.5k revs you may get a really terrible shift, even if over 85% throttle opening.

If you're on WOT and are shifting above 5.5k revs and it's stuttering terribly, then maybe it does have an issue.

Personally, rather than contacting the mapper, I'd just switch it off and never use it again!

Didn't you know this is where all the F1 drivers and engineers hang out in their off season?

It's all about marginal gains and torque curves here. Having fun is generally a big no no. Back to losing that christmas belly I go before I become a negative statistic on that torque curve.

If I want to have fun I find ways that are more exciting that ****ing my car up and feeling uncomfortable changing gear in a well honed performance car lol

Point taken. But i am still none the wiser to the actual question with it being normal for the useless feature, or an issue with the map..

My mapper is also yet to reply.

Really? I would say that there are quite a few posts in here that should have pointed you to the conclusion you're after ...

Only you know exactly how you were driving the car and can therefore deduce whether there may be a problem with the map or not.

I never change below 5k, mine cuts savagely bad for 2/3 seconds and jolts the car horrendously. Still waiting on reply from my mapper.
