EcuTek - EcuTek Launches Nissan GT-R RaceROM Phase 4

EcuTek Launches Nissan GT-R RaceROM Phase 4

Since the release of our RaceROM Phase 3 update to the GT-R platform in June 2013 we have been hard at work making it even better. Welcome to Phase 4. We are particularly happy with our new flagship feature, RaceROM Rolling Launch. This update puts the EcuTek GT-R platform at the cutting edge of what's possible with the stock ECU. Read on to see all the great features in this new release.

Phase 4 Achievements

RaceROM Rolling Launch

This feature offers a launch mode that can be activated whilst the vehicle is moving and is designed for those who want to look after their transmissions but also want instantaneous boost pressure when they actually launch. Rolling launch is enabled through the cruise control. Set your roll speed, enter cruise mode, floor the accelerator and watch the boost build. Simply press cancel on the cruise control to launch. If you want to increase or decrease your roll speed while in cruise mode, just use the plus or minus cruise control switch as you would normally. And don't just think this feature is for roll racers, it's pretty awesome on the freeway/motorway too so will be a great 'must have feature for all GT-R owners!

From a technical perspective, you can specify a pre-launch manifold pressure target and target AFR for each mapswitch mode that the feature is enabled in. The ECU will dynamically retard and advance the ignition timing in order to achieve the target. You can also specify rolling launch to only operate when VDC is off. It is also possible to configure the feature to only activate when R-Mode suspension is selected. As a safety feature you can specify a time out value for the antilag system to be active.

Improved Boost Off The Line

Rather than activating the antilag as soon as Launch Control is engaged, Phase 4 waits until the RPM has risen. Some cars have trouble reaching and holding the desired launch RPM and this solves that problem.

Per-Mode Knock Control Enable Maps

The new 'knock control enable' map has 4 separate maps, one for each mode, with the same size and scaling as the RaceROM ignition timing maps. This allows the tuner to have finer control of when the knock control system is enabled giving greater control when using different fuels.

2D Map for MAP/Boost Sensor Scaling

The new 2D sensor scaling allows 5 bar MAP sensors to be fitted and scaled correctly (non linear calibration is now possible). This also offers a visual display of the Volts to Bar sensor calibration.

New Logging Parameters

Torque Split; G-Sensor; Oil Pressure; Steering Angle

Providing unique data logging parameters to help develop the best calibration possible.

New Inputs to Custom Maps

Short Term Fuel Trim; Fuel Level; Torque Split; G-Sensor; Oil Pressure; Steering Angle

Short Term Fuel Trim; Fuel Level; Engine Oil Pressure can be used for building fail safe custom maps to protect the engine when something critical happens. e.g. 2nd fuel pump failure or a fuel surge.

Torque Split; G-Sensor and Steering Angle are useful when creating bespoke Traction Control set-ups for every slip condition.

New Failsafe/Startup Activation Option for Custom Maps

Fail-safe map: Select the “Map is initially inactive” option and configure the map to activate in the error condition. Once triggered, the fail-safe map will remain active until the engine is stopped. This could be a map with drop in fuel pressure relative to engine speed which could save an engine from total destruction and an expensive re-build.

Startup map: Select the “Map is initially active” option and then configure the map to deactivate when a certain condition is reached. Once deactivated, the map will not re-activate until the engine is stopped. This could be a cold start correction that is only active until a certain temperature is reached.

Custom Maps Can Be Selected Depending on Suspension Mode

Making RaceROM custom maps even more powerful, offering configuration settings that you never thought possible with a factory ECU.

Ability to Adjust Engine Size Parameter

To be Adjusted in Speed Density Calculation for Bored/Stroked Engines

The engine size is a fundamental input to the Speed Density calculation. Phase 4 gives tuners the ability to adjust this to get better results when tuning bored/stroked engines.

Full Time Hijack of Coolant Temp Display to Show Other Information

RaceROM Phase 3 gained the ability to display data from a custom map on the coolant temp gauge when the car was map switching. RaceROM Phase 4 extends this ability by allowing full-time use of the coolant temp gauge, not just during the map switch process.

A custom map can be configured to display such things as oil pressure, air/fuel ratio, ignition timing or even the current ethanol content ratio of the fuel in the tank.

Phase 4 Achievements - Two 8 Second GT-Rs

We have had phenomenal success with our Phase 4 with Steve’s GT-R (audioenvy) SprayitRacing built and tuned and Eli’s GT-R (Blkonblk88) RD Engineering built and Visconti tuned, both running 8 second quarters.

Can't wait to get this on my car…if I can get hold of Iain! Taken a week just to be told he needs an ID number off my ProECU kit. Version 5 will be out at this rate :chuckle:

Have you decided what you're going with in the end?

Unless you want Syvecs (££££) I agree with Adam's subtle suggestion that there is not much choice to Ecutek at the moment.

Cobb has fallen behind, even the main tuners that used to stick with Cobb are now supplying Ecutek too. Yet the Ecutek ones are not touching Cobb...

Anyone that still runs a Cobb owes it to themselves and more importantly their GT-R to take a serious look at what Ecutek has to offer.

All credit to the original development achieved, but I've never looked back since changing more than a year ago due to the level of refinement, features and results achieved - it is on another level as an engineering solution.

I've had the Ecutek phase4 on for a few months now, and its been great.. some great features like being able to raise/lower the boost using the cruise control, and the rolling launch/Boost off the line....

Its nice having the car tweaked to how I like to drive it, and being able to tell my tuner (acspeedtech) what I want from the car, and them being able to tune it to my driving style, making it more/less aggressive to drive as i like.

Nice easy map switching via the cancel button as well, and it even displays map number onscreen...

she drives very smooth with the new map I have on the phase4

Bring on phase5!
