It's the Cat high temp warning sensor. If the car reaches high temps it indicates that there's something wrong with the engine And the catalysator gets to hot

Yeah, I've changed the hole exhaust 2 years ago, and just like you said Hodgie, tucked it away and haven't noticed anything wrong, but selling the car now so just wanted to make sure this didn't have any negative effect on the engine if a potencial buyer wonders!
