Hi guys,

Ive been seriously considering buying an R34 GT-R for a few years now and im finally in a position where I can afford one. I currently drive a 300bhp RWD 200sx which I have had for 3 years, so im well accustomed to a powerful car.

I don't think I could bring myself to use the GT-R as a daily so id probably get a runaround as well and use the GT-R for weekends / trips / track / events etc.

What I wanted to know from other R34 GT-R owners was the rough running costs (fuel / services / wear and tear etc) and whether you guys think its worth spending 22-23k on the car (should I just spend 10k on a nice R32 GT-R for example?). The 200 only does about 20-25mpg, has 3k oil changes and 255s on the back so again im accustomed to spending a lot on it!

Also does the car get a lot of unwanted attention or is most of it positive? Id be very wary about parking it anyway etc or taking it to certain places.

I don't own an R34, however I did own an R33 and the running costs are the same as they share the same power plant...the RB26

Where I can help you is that I moved from a 300bhp 200 to GTR ownership. To be honest the transition was not much more expensive. Petrol was a little more but nothing noteworthy. Servicing is more expensive but not by a lot. The only thing to be wary about is when things go wrong they are a expensive to fix ie. turbos, gearbox, diff etc.

My GTR was a good one so nothing went wrong on it thankfully and its TWICE the car the 200 is....only once you drive one will you realise :)

Awesome car and you shouldn't think twice about getting in one. I would go for the R34 as IMO its the best looking of the lot and road presence is immense. Plus there are fewer R34's on the road than any of the other variants...even R35.

Excellent advice, thanks. Luckily I have APT down the road as well who can service and tune it.

Do you use yours as a daily? I don't think id be able to take it to work every day for fear of some scubbag keying it or something! Mind you saying that the 200 stands out quite a bit as you can see and ive been ok with that so far.

I had a stage 1 R33 GTR and I drove it everyday to work and back, socialising, long trips...everything

Petrol's a bit heavy but as far practicality it was fine as long as you don't mind the twin plated clutch (Nismo aftermarket)...there are definately more 'comfortable' cars to be sitting in traffic in

The worst thing about owning one though is the negative attention is attracts, hence mine was stolen from my house. This has been a major factor why I haven't got back in one since although I may well do so in the nearish future :)

lol, im not worried about comfort or practicality. My 200 has neither and the clutch is a heavy bastard.

Am a bit worried about the negative attention a 34 could attract, however ill be getting a tracker fitted straight away. Ill budget it in with the purchase. Will be kept in my garage as well.

A long shot, but have you owned a Pantera, and if so, was it the blue modified one with your name on the reg with a V infront of it.?
