Yeah but, no but, they'll all deny it .... and say that sort of thing never happens at their particular branch etc.,.,........

Will it make buying a house cheaper ?

I wont buy a house because of this sort of sh|t, lying agents, lying brokers, lying financial institutions and £300K for a dog kennel that aint worth half that.
Normally Marx's law of 'something only being worth what people are prepared to pay for it' works, except when the person has no choice - humans not suitable for living in caves and all that.
We live in a country where there are 280,000 second homes empty, and hard working people cannot afford jack-sh|t to live in.
House prices; not so much the haves and the have nots, more the haves and doomed.
Assholes.

I walked past a Foxtons the other day. Massive place in London, floor to ceiling glass front, 50" plasmas everywhere, enormous leather recliners, the works. On the basis that they can afford all that, I would never consider buying a house from them - because that money has got to be coming from somewhere. The report just confirms what's obvious to anyone who's seen one of their branches really.

We're living in an age of 'middle-men'
Cars, houses, travel....the list is endless. Those that suffer are those that require the services.

I read the article also and was gladdened to hear that their misdemeanors will be available for all to see.

Exactly! we all get screwed over by those who provide a service. which is why I try to be self sufficient as much as poss... even when it come to my skyline;)

Something has got to give in the housing market.. cant keep going up like this! to live in london and be "ok" you need atleast a salary of 55-60, much less than that and its a struggle.

Imagine the people in the service sector or in general retail who are on salaries of 12-18k I wonder how they would manage.. 1000-1300 per month would dissapear in a flash! 800 is how much you can pay at minumum for a simple 1 bed flat in london! not much left for anything else or to have a life really. Even studios are going for 500 upwards.. a single room about 80.

Please don't everyone get the impression that this is the way all agents work. There are a lot of good agents with good reputations out there, you just have to find them.

Being members of regulatory bodies like the Ombudsman for Esate Agents, ARLA, NALS, TDSRA etc etc will always show agents that are willing to follow ethical business practices.

I for one am looking forward to this program tonight because over the coming months all my potential clients will be asking me if I'm a regulated agent or not, and won't consider my competition as they are all unregulated.

Absolutely not mate. I am just a little bitter after having had some VERY bad experiences with estate agents - one of whom was a member of the NAEA. Doesn't change the fact that he was a scumbag.

The advice that you posted about renting property on another thread a little while ago was top notch and I agreed with every word - because I learnt most of it the hard way!

Estate Agents = Sopranos...........in green chuffing minis! :D
