It's the re shimming that takes the time! Plus much easier with the engine out for obvious reasons.

You most definatly do not need to remove the engine or sump to do this
Speaking of sump removal..how high does the engine need to be lifted of its mounts in order for the sump to clear the oil strainer and subframe??

Ive done , and seen yoda do quite a few front diffs, never taken the engine out or pulled the sump off to do one yet...
It can all come out throgh the cover ...
Wasnt that the question ?

ps its 10.04 in the morning, Im at work, had 3 coffee's , feeling quite alert ...

Agree *shock* :chuckle:...you can remove/replace the whole CWP assembly without removing the sump. Although with engine in car your not going to have the most amount of room to play with...just hope you have small hands :chuckle:

I've done it with engine in, not that bad. A few hours work, Torquing/ undoing the pinion can be a pain but making a simple tool to hold the driveshaft flange is easy enough.
