Noobie question for you. (Well, I have only been here since June!)
I always understood that the term Godzilla referred to any R32GTR.
However, I overheard two lads talking about my car and saying that it wasn't a Godzilla as it was a standard one. (It's stage one but you can't tell that from just looking at it.)
Can anyone enlighten me please ?

any R32 gtr is known as a godzilla regardless of mods, its just a knickname (thats stuck) given to them when they beat basicly everything when they first came out.

It was a term used by journalists in Australia refering to the R32 Touring cars during their reign in the early ninties. I have a Sports Car International article from 1991 somewhere which says that the term was first used by a mechanic, when the R32 rolled out onto the grid for the first time, who apparently commented "There it sits, Godzilla." Whether this is lore or not is another matter.

I heard it came from the Aussie Holden Racing drivers who were getting their bottoms kicked by the R32 Touring cars...

It was also the nickname given to David Yu's R33 that featured in Evo magazine every month.
