Following a less than great experience at one of the well know independents - I am looking for an alternative with a good reputation within about 60 miles of Hampshire/Surrey border.
Standard car, just a place people recommend.

If anyone interested in my recent visit to the other company PM me,

Ian

Autotorque isn't far off. Always been good for me. Depends where you've already been I suppose. Never really understood why people don’t say where they’ve had bad experiences as long as you’ve give them a chance to rectify.

If you can’t do the work yourself, how do you know a garage has done a good job? I only say as I dropped my daily off for a small job at a specialist a few weeks ago and thought I’d check the oil level as I’ve got to cover some miles over the last 3 days and this week. What do I find? The engine cover missing.
Been and recovered it today, so all in all it’s a job I could have done myself, and saved money as I’ve wasted too much time back and forth and waiting ages while it was in there.

The thing is - non of the servicing items are rocket science, sure I can change the oil and trans fluids, add screen wash etc... and I dont think if I had a 2/4 post ramp it would take me 5 hours !
I could also get a half price MOT at Halfords, (still amazes me that when being charged £800+ for a service they dont throw in a free MOT!), anyway, back to the point in hand, I pay (like an idiot it seems) top dollar for the name in a service book, to make it easier to sell when the time comes, from what I witnessed yesterday I am paying for mechanics to walk around in branded gear, spend 50% longer doing a task than at other independent specialists I have used for both Subaru STi's and RS fords would, for free fizzy drinks and coffee, my car went in for a 72 month service and MOT (without brake lines), they failed my MOT on slightly weeping OSR brake line (bit sus' - maybe they did that purposely as I preferred to fit the Goodridge kit elsewhere to save over £100 - undecided on that conspiracy theory) . I remember I had 265 miles range left when I stepped out of it and 137 when I stepped back in, now I know the MOT would have sat it on idle for a bit then a few revs for the emissions - but is does bring into question how it was driven on the test drive and to/from the MOT, its just another thing that niggled me.
Ah well you live and learn - at the age of 59, and been in the performance car world for over 30 years, you would think I would know better, either way, its their loss, as I wont be going back there, I will of course email them and give them the opportunity to either fob me off or tell me where to go, then I will write an open and honest review. And yes I am sure they can do without my continued business but news travels and many big firms have crumbled because they lost the ability to treat customer with respect and not treat them like loaded morons.

Speak to Lee at SRD- I've used him for around 10 years now and never an issue.

The worst service I have had - happened several times over a number of years - was from franchised dealers. Glyn Hopkins being the worst. Couple of highlights, from many "incidents": serviced my Fiat Barchetta, charged me all the money, turned up to collect and they hadn't changed the air filter, but had managed to scratch the door....nice. Should have known better but also used them to service my Murano for 8 years. Was OK to start with, no real problems, just odd minor issues, but in the final year they fitted the wrong alternator/cocked up the service and left me without the car for 4 weeks whilst they sourced the correct parts.....after having the car so long you can imagine my relief when I finally went to collect it.....only to see them back it into a wall, then deny it, 6 staff telling me it was like that when it came in to them......cost them a lot of money to put it right (work done by someone else though) as I always take an around car pictures/ video when I drop it off for a service ;)

The worst part of it all is when they get the arse on,for jobs they have'nt done right.
I used to take in on the chin but now I'm older I'll argue it out.

I Know the feeling took car for a service and stage one, and ended up with a dirty car a loads of bolts snapped off on under tray, But charged for a full s/s kit, and the front wheels put back on the wrong sides, 🤪
