Hi Alan,

The way that google store the files is a non-standard format, BUT with a bit of work you can get the file and convert it.

Find the video you want and then click on the Download button. A pop up box will come up saying that you need to download the Google Video Viewer - click Cancel.

Look for the link that says 'Manually Download the Video' and click on it. Save the .gvp file to your harddisk. Now open the file with Notepad. The bit you need starts with http://, here it is:

http://vp.video.google.com/videodownload?version=0&secureurl=rAAAALNq4tnKxQHVMlcOjCSB18kdF0WT92opaz2w622xAZU1uvRyq1bRgroADJzy5mjBjSeILklhBa37A9d3vCpnCxYIrAjek3O6BUAs3-5ltvdf__-Qz5p6B-kxwPCwlAF1-bzU92QWoarwGEqS8wf_Iy-ULnhACsePiMn5oosxTnJOZwu2OeZ4Qb_8z4reFeDMfkfk2MnAXY7PkC1l5yjmuTlhW3OL-IReUtkKpV7EyKJn

http://vp.video.google.com/videodownload?version=0&secureurl=rAAAALNq4tnKxQHVMlcOjCSB18kdF0WT92opaz2w622xAZU1uvRyq1bRgroADJzy5mjBjSeILklhBa37A9d3vCpnCxYIrAjek3O6BUAs3-5ltvdf__-Qz5p6B-kxwPCwlAF1-bzU92QWoarwGEqS8wf_Iy-ULnhACsePiMn5oosxTnJOZwu2OeZ4Qb_8z4reFeDMfkfk2MnAXY7PkC1l5yjmuTlhW3OL-IReUtkKpV7EyKJn

You can now download the file. But you now need to convert it!

Goto http://www.softslist.com/download-8-8-24131.html

Down load the software - which will work for 15 days. Import the file and then select what format you want - MPEG4 Windows media player. Wait for the conversion to finish, and then watch the video in Media Player.

Hope that helps.

Unfortunately none that I'm aware of. :( Its definitely one of the best 1hr+ of Japanese performance footage I have seen. I am sorely tempted to buy an original copy myself. Where did you buy it JapFreak786?

Hi guys, I don't remember the exact trick, but you can pretty much download the videos from Google Video with something like a .flv extension (native for the Google Video player), rename to .avi .. and it'll play in Media Player.

I'm off to check it now for correct syntax.

edit

um ok it's a bit fiddly but it DOES put the video in .avi format with Divx encoding (Divx 4 opendivx) which makes it a lot easier to edit (and play, it'll play back natively in VideoLAN and probably Media Player Classic, but Windows Media Player will need a download to make it work).

Open the link to google video.

On the right, click 'Download'

You will probably be prompted to install google video player. Ignore/cancel this for now.

You will now see a link on the right to Manually download the video. Click on this, and save the file it tries to send you somewhere. This should be a .GVP

Open this saved .GVP into Notepad or other text editor. You might want to turn Word Wrap on here.

There will be a comment about downloading the free google video player, and then after the URL for that, you will get url: and then a long url with http://vp.video.google.com starting it off. Copy this long string up to just before docid: is mentioned, and paste that into your browser. You should now (hey presto!) get a download link for a .avi

If you are able though, install the Free Google Player, it makes it a lot easier to muck around after :)
