hi guys, in the market for a gt-r

any advice on what to look out for?

brake disc for cracking is the 1st thing to check, and make sure not due for any major service.

?

going to look at a 10 reg tonight black edition. 27k miles up for 38k. but has 3 pre owners, he is the 4th owner but has owned the car for 3 years! how strange! so its like in the 1st year it passed though 3 owners!????

can't wait to get out my rs3! hate it!

Recommend doing a search mate as there's loads of stuff on here already but the general ones will be:

- Brakes cracking as you said

- Bellhousing rattle (will be covered by extended warranty if the car has one - check if it's already been replaced by an upgraged one from Litchfield or Middlehurst etc.)

- Tyres, inner shoulder (camber is quite severe ...)

- Condensation in the headlights (again, will be a warranty fix ...)

- Check that gears change smoothly (could be a sign of potential solenoid fix required)

It may be a good idea to dear for deankenny's yhreads. the poor guy has had some bad luck with his purchase and it may give you soem idea what to look out for.

And welcome to the GTROC!

Check everything you can you do not want to buy a shagged out one, check if its been launched at all, also check transmission temps, and also the most important of all do the HPI check!!!!!!!

Check out the stock on Litchfield's website, there are a couple on there that might suit.

I'm a newbie here but can't stop wondering why there isn't anykind of buyers guide or known issues or check before buying topic sticky here? I've been around only less than 2 weeks with username and maybe 2 months or so without registering. Yet even I've seen multiple posts like this; peoples asking about R35's known issues and what to look out when testdriving one.

Just my 2c.

borrowed from another thread - thanks and props to Protegimus
So the list is (please append any I've omitted):
gearbox (additional maintenance)
bellhousing (Litchfield replacement)
brakes - cracked front disks or cracked pads (aftermarket replacement)
tyres - uneven wear
suspension geometry (ensure alignment completed as per special service schedule)
leaky shock absorbers (warranty)
headlights - condensation/failure (warranty)
steering lock recall (warranty)
transmission and driveshaft oil seals - known issue, they weep transmission fluid (warranty, lol use a specialist!)
head unit/MFD and dash LED's (warranty)

battery (pre 2010 had too low a capacity and runs flat very quickly, which in turn wrecks that battery)
interior squeaks & rattles
Undertray bolts missing/seized or plastic fixing clips broken or missing
Check the thin vertical metal stays in the front bumper - if they are bent it's easy to identify if the bumper/front lip has had a knock
Valve caps can be removed & TPMS works (valve service kit)
Alloys for damage/cracks (warranty)

MOT
Check service history with the dealer(s) that has maintained the car. Check service intervals and ensure they correspond to the recommendations, especially with regard to mileage and if tracked

Ensure the driveline fluids were replaced at the correct interval
stall starts (launches) and oil temperature history (EcuTek cable or Consult III)

Reliability is good when the car is properly maintained, also had mine two years and it's been a pleasure.
As per above there are lots of areas to improve on (at cost); where Nissan engineered to a minimal budget it has started to show up.

you could have my car for £35,500 but better be quick or Nissan are having it as they have agreed a deal against an my11. Drives lovely, Full service history, latest ecutek gearbox software and stage 1 software and front pipe. New brakes front and rear. John @ middlehurst knows the car very well and has kept it in tip top condition. Miles are above average at 49k but its been mothered and never launched or tracked. DMG colour etc. PM me if interested. 59 plate sat nav model in excellent condition also had 2012 bell housing fitted.

Wow, I know it took me a good few months before I did my one and only launch.

I actually prefer the pull of already rolling at 20-30mph and accelerating, more of a buzz then the launch for me.

How do the ecutek cables work. Does it only work on cars that have been mapped or can it read the standard ecu to tell if it's been launched etc
