Hey guys.
Just wondering if anyone is running either of these garrett turbos on there gtrs?
How do they perform ?
Does the larger GT2860R- 7s have issues with shuffle down low and how responsive are they? e.g when do they start pulling from and when do they get onto full boost ,say 1.4 - 1.6 bar.

Here is where im at,I have an engine thats built for a solid 700hp with fueling to match, running power fc as my computor.
My goal is high 300kws or even low 400kws at the hubs (hub dyno) would these turbos do this?Iv read that the GT2860R - 5s are good for 360hp apeice with almost factory response in spool rate and the GT2860R- 7s are rated to 400hp each , now thats on paper but what are you guys getting with these tubbies? A single is not an option for me at this stage and I want to keep with bolt on low mounts.
Any help will be greatly apreciated :)

Im running the GT2860R -5's...... the response rate seems to be quite good and i am getting 600bhp @ the fly from my gtr running 1.5bar and 700cc injectors.
They hit 1 bar boost by 4k rpm and are running 1.5 by 4700rpm, they keep builing power all the way up to the 8000rpm limiter that was set and were still rising in power there....

I believe that these will easily see 650bhp once turned up to 1.8 bar but im running a std 33gtr gearbox so im keeping it to 600 to prevent the gears leaving the vehicle.

Im very happy with this setup indeed :)

What sort of boost can these turbs handle? You say you beleive they will flow 1.8 bar , do you think thats a safe number for these turbos to run? :)

Yes they have here are some better links

Garrett turbo 707160-7 which is almost the same size as HKS GTSS will produce around 300 hp each with fast spool up almost as oem these are also very similiar in size to the R34N1 turbos.

Garrett turbo 707160-5 which is almost the same size as HKS 2530 will produce around 350 hp each and be alittle laggier than the -7 and oem but will have better top end they will still produce power after 7500rpm which the -7 wont.

Over and out

-5's wont keep pulling past 7500rpm on their own. Expect peak power between 7100rpm and 7400rpm with a steady decline after that. Peak torque around thr 5100-5300rpm point with 1.5 bar by 4800rpm.

To keep producing power up to 8000rpm you'd need step 2 cams with over 10mm of lift. Stock or step 1 cams wont cut the mustard.

But they should produce comparable power to the GT2530 - although the compressor wheel is a different trim and the exhaust turbine isnt quite as free flowing around the exit.

Wouldnt be more than 10-15hp in it i'd imagine

I have a dyno chart showing otherwise. All depends on the turbo, cam timing, tune.

With the N1 turbos , peak power around 6500 prm. Falling off after that.

With some other equalivant to 2530 / -5 turbos on the same motor, over 500 at 6000, 7000, 8000 , 8200 where we cut it off.

I agree, mine keep producing power till around 8000rpm where my limiter is
When do they start making positive vacuam plkettle? Are they still a drivable turbo say round town in the lower gears and when you want to overtake on the open rd is the delivery quick ? :)

Thats interesting how you guys seem to keep making power up to 8000rpm with them.

Cam timing must be the key there!

Sean, do the 2530 boost curves you've seen hold OVER 1.5 bar above 7000rpm?? I've seen a few cars that hit 1.6/1.7 bar but then the needle drops steadily once the revs get up near redline. I can only put it down to the compressor wheel being too small as we cant find any boost leaks.

On the other hand the dirty old 2540 will happily hold 1.8 bar up to redline but is a laggy old turbo.

Whats your thoughts?
