My advice (lesson learnt) is skyline specialist if we cannot help you out. I would have thought that it needs a diagnostic check if it is nothing obvious (no expert but oil low, sensor broken etc.) Hiteq are 5 minutes off M6. Can't you sneak in, in your lunch break?

diagnostic mode

Hi,

There is a way to get the car to go into a diagnostic mode where the interior light ? flashes out coded messages, 3 flashes for fault on this or that etc..

There are some guys on the board who know what it means and how to get it going.

Alternatively, bung a local nissan garage a drink and borrow/possibly with a guy who knows how to drive it, their nissan consono test device.

This can access the car's computer and do a full check and opeation test of the cars systems.

From memory there are a few checks in the area you mentioned so that may be worth a look.

hope this helps..

/Steve

Procedure:

Switch ingition off, transmission in neutral or auto in Park.
Start engine
Very quickly (with a couple of seconds), turn the steering wheel left and right about 20 degrees from centre five times, and then pump the brakes five times, then press the brake pedal once more - this will enter diagnostic mode.
Drive forwards or backwards about 5 metres at a speed less than 10k/ph, this will enter full diagnostic mode.
The HICAS light in the instrument cluster will be flashing quickly (for normal) or will flash a code indicating any problems. Long flash = first digit, short flash = second digit. Diagnostics will return to normal after five minutes, or any speed over 10k/ph, or ingnition is turned off.

HICAS 1990-1993 (seems OK for '89 as well)
1 HICAS solenoid right hand
2 HICAS solenoid left hand
3 Cut off valve
4 Power steering solinoid
5 Vehicle speed sensor
6 Steering angle sensor
7 Neutral position sensor
8 (Auto) Parking brake sensor, (Manual) Clutch sensor
9 (Auto) Inhibitor switch, (Manual) Neutral sensor

HICAS 1994-1999
11 HICAS control unit
12 HICAS motor power supply not present
13 HICAS motor output not present
21 Vehicle speed sensor not present
22 Steering angle sensor not present
23 Steering angle sensor neutral or not present
24 Rear main sensor input not present
25 Rear sub sensor input not present
31 Parking brake sensor input not present
32 (Auto) Inhibititor switch input not present

(Manual) Neutral switch input not present

You should go into print with these wonders of information.
Perhaps Joss could set up a LOOK ONLY page where you and other guys could post info through Joss on items like this.
It would save searching the whole database. :D
Best regards Alan :D

I have boxes of info on the GTR - Vast majority as text files (in true teckie nerd style) covering the entire car - Have manuals too from a friend at Nissan

A few friends off board have them and they also help me out with stuff like this.

I don't post much though as I've had my fingers burned with that in the past.

Just happens I was on phone to a friend whos 33V was having this prob and thought I'd chuck it in - no doubt someone will find fault and give me grief - then their bum-chums join in - too much like hard work sometimes

Seems that lately you need to have 3 Nismo engineers and your solicitor present before you can post anything

Jamie - yeah that bang on head worked wonders mate - still there must be an easier way to do it that leaving a French motorway at 90mph taking off and bending the floor of an A4 T and writing it off!

Still - we were ok - strike another one of my 9 lives off !

r we sorted?

R400GTR ...did Phil's info help you and is it sorted?
'3 Nismo engineers and your solicitor present' LOL
It should not be like this, we are supposed to be amateurs....as soon as Phil puts it on the forum, I print it and file it ready for future use. I suppose if we could all fix our own cars the tuners would go bust :D
