Hi All,
First of apologies for what is in effect a "What's-it-Worth" question - but I'm getting desperate!

Basically I have a K plate R32 GTR which through a series of unfortunate events <insert sob stories here> I have neglected for about 9 years now. It is more or less a barn find at this stage (or lock-up find to be more accurate).
The problem is I have a garage owning friend that has been pestering me for years to buy it - and I have no idea what sort of price to pitch at him and I've been researching for days now but I still don't know if it's worth £3K or £30K (or possibly just £3). I don't want to rob him at the same time I don't want to be robbed - we're both just looking for a deal that's not going to end in one of us not talking to the other lol.

I've had it since it was imported in 2003 and, like everyone else does, messed with it so it isn't stock anymore.
The basics of what was done (all by Rod Bell At RB Motorsport):
  • Engine rebuild with appropriate bits to support 700+ BHP
  • Apexi Power FC and Boost kit
  • Tomei cams
  • OsGriken STR2CD clutch
  • Tein Super Street Suspension
  • Garret 2860 Turbos
  • R33 VSpec brakes
  • Trust Radiator, Aircon rad (never even filled), Stainless exhaust etc. etc.
  • Bodywork/interior original
The bad bits:
-The car has a bit of rot on the offside rear wheel arch
-It's about an inch deep in crud
-Exterior is showing its age as you might expect - Interior is musty but pretty good condition
-Battery is knackered
-Clutch is sticking

I fired it up yesterday and oil pressure was good, turbos responding and everything seemed to be working but I didn't move it due to not trusting the clutch.
So I'd appreciate some opinions for a ball park figure bearing in mind the deal will probably be a combination of cash and swap for some sort of 4x4 I now need for work.

Thanks in advance
/Stu

It's hard to say.
How is the paint work on it?
What mileage has it covered?

Worth taking a few photos inc the engine bay

Thanks for the input.

The paintwork is original and looks it - needs "freshening up" I think is the term lol. Engine bay was tidy when it went in but not spectacular.
The car was never mint which is why I'm having trouble putting a price on it. I've seen mint ones sitting at £30k but not been messed with, I've seen heavily modded ones that aren't so mint at £25k, I've seen mint GTS's down at £12k because GTR's seem to be comparatively rare these days. I've no idea what end of the scale I'm looking at.
I was pitching a sale to my mate at about the £10k mark but now don't know if it's worth more because its a 32 or worth less because it's modded.

I know he's not after a quick buck (wish he was then it would be easier - just split the difference on a sale) which is one of the reasons I want him to have it - it'll be in better hands than mine. Having a garage at his disposal (and lackeys to do the dirty work) he's more interested in getting it tidy again and what would be a couple of grand to me will just be time to him.

I was hoping somebody would just say something like "It's a running R32 so it'll start at the £X'ish mark but then you can add/subtract £Y'ish for the modding".
As I said - I want to give him a good deal but I don't want to sell a £20K motor at half the price. I'm quite happy to take a hit on a few grand but not £10k. (Having said that I'd probably let him have it anyway and come to an arrangement for the rest - so the actual price is going to be fluid anyway.

You're probably right that I should have grabbed a few piccies - I'll have to find time to go back and get some I think

It really depends on any structural rust I’d say. Pictures will help. Minimum £10k, If sound, possibly more depending on condition IMHO.

Hi Thanks for the responses.

There's a K plate on eBay with rust issues requiring a panel replacement and it's sitting at the £18K price mark. I reckon mines about the same condition after a good clean (although the wheel arch rust on mine could be repaired without replacing the panel).
The difference would be that mine has all the mods on it so would that make it less/more/the same - I can't tell :-(

The structural rust could make the difference and I can't get to the underside to have a look (too fat these days). I know it was checked and undersealed a few years prior to going in the lockup (funny enough by the bloke that wants to buy it!) but that's no guarantee of the current condition even though the lock up is dry. But I can't see it taking many £1000's to fix any issues - especially to a man with his resources. Now I think about it - I'd probably be getting him to fix issues prior to sale anyway!

I'm quite prepared to knock around £2 or £3K off the price for sorting issues out (will need oil and fuel change and a set of tyre etc.) - it's just what price am I knocking it off lol

Anyway - I'll get some pictures tonight then round to his garage to get him to order me a new battery for it. That way I can at least get it moving under it's own power so can see what this clutch is doing and if the brakes need work.

I'll be back tomorrow :)

I'm no expert at all in Skylines, as I've only just got my gtr, after a 10 year break since my gtst.

I would say the engine work you have done with yours would make the car more desirable, therefore valuable. As it's been done by a reputable specialist, and sounds like it's done to a perfect spec for a road car.

Right - update. (sorry for the delay)
I can summarise this by saying you lot are going to string me up for neglect lol

Anyway - Battery went in and it fires up and idles under it's own steam now. I put 10L of Ultimate in at (it's always been run on that) and it barely made a dent so tank was dry. Next I went to put some clutch fluid in as the pedal was on the floor - fluid level fine but for some reason the clutch decided to unstick itself and I got some pressure back. It moved out of the lockup without all the drama I was expecting as I remember the OSGiken clutch being a bit of an on/off switch.
I gently ran it up and down for a bit to check brakes and gearbox. Brake pedal softer than I remember but worked fine. only issue was the handbrake light was on even though the brakes weren't

Next problem - I pitched a deal to my mate at about £15K which involved some cash and a trade for a 4x4 so there was wriggle room on his part. Too rich for him so no need for sorting it out!

So what now you ask?
Well, I got an insurance quote didn't I - Oh dear! it's affordable - I see a money pit looming!!!!

When I can get round to it I said I'd run it down to my mates for oil change, fuel tank flush, tyres, and MOT - plus looking at that wheel arch rot and anything else that comes up.

In answer to the mileage question - it's clocked at 191K - problem is some of that is Km (I have the certificate somewhere for when it was swapped to Miles) - about 80K I think, then a load was put on as I bought it (it was my daily driver on a 70 mile commute) then I had the engine rebuild so I need to go back and work out how much it's done from then. Nearly all mileage is motorway runs I was never brave enough to thrash it anywhere near its capabilities.

Anyway - I've attached the piccies - let the abuse start lol

Sorry to post again but I've now just checked PM's and the like as well and a couple of you have asked about the car - assuming you're watching this thread I thought it would be easier to post here rather than contact you all individually - but it was just to say that you may not be so interested now I've posted the above pictures! lol

It's going abut 500 yards - otherwise, yes, I'd have done it myself (or got somebody competent to do it) lol
Any damage forthcoming has probably already been done by me driving up and down outside the lockup to be honest :-(

Doesn't look as bad as I was expecting from your initial posts! A good wash with a snow foam lance to get all the shit off will be a good start! 😂 The rear arch rust doesn't look too bad, is it just surface or gone right through? Even the engine bay is fairly tidy, considering - I think she'll clean up nicely. 😊👍

Hmm with that mileage and rust I would say 15 is top dollar, was it badly over what he wanted to pay or a little?

I'm glad you said that as I went round this morning to see if he had somewhere to put it in the workshop as I was bringing it down for sorting out with the aim of getting an MOT and he'd changed his mind and went for the deal.
I'm not feeling guilty if that's top dollar as there's wriggle room on the 4x4 as he's sourcing it. I trust him to go a bit higher or lower on what he spends based on what he finds when he gets stuck in.

I was getting used to the idea of driving it again (and looking forward to it) right up until the point I tried to get out of it - I have a dodgy hip (yes I'm an old fart) and getting out of it was excruciatingly painful. I think it's for the best that I retire from toys like this :-(
He's said I can borrow it when he's got it right again so my last drive will be a pleasant experience and not wracked with stress over it making it the 500 yards
NOTE: For anyone else trying this you should be aware that you'll need to put more than a gallon into a dry tank if you want to go up hill! (Lucky I brought another can of juice)

I've asked him to get photo's of the underside which I'll post when I get them just to complete this saga in case anyone has a similar issue in the future.
Thanks to all of you for your input and apologies to those that PM'd me showing interest - I'm afraid its technically gone now!

to repair that, probably including new items (rubbers etc) you are probably looking at tens of thousands :(

Thats a full rear qtr replacement at minimum. I bet sills need doing. If you budget 10k for restoration (engine bay looks rough too), I would MAYBE pay 10k for it. It will need a lot of work to be done right. hope that helps.
