I have a le mans skyline Gtr V - spec. running at about 700bhp has a 2.8 stroker kit on steel headgasket greddy sump extension, uprated injectors fuel rail and fuel pump. twin T67 Tubos fcon pro unit etc etc.

my problem is. its massively overheating. running into 120 + degrees when the car is under load even at 3000 revs. cools down on idle. i only drive 1 mile not even in boost and the temperature hits the red.

oil pressure runs at 4.5 on when warm at 2000 revs idle runs at 2.5-3
oil temperature runs at 90.
fuel pressure 3.5

also oil catch tank has a lot of condensed water ( engine blows off a lot of steam). oil is ok though.

one problem i have noticed is a loose wire on the fcon unit which we have just found last night and hopefully rectified it. (moved a green wire and a blue one and the engine cuts out.) however. now the engine is idling at 1300 revs.

any ideas..

Dont mess around with trying this and trying that,bring the car to a specialist like Abbey,they will sort that,maybe a cracked head or blown headgasket.

Was looking at this with danny last night the rad had alot of air in it last night bled that off and toped up.

The rad does seem to be getting pressurised from somewhere but not enough to be classed as a blown head gasket i dont think anyway. when ran with the cap off water pulsates a little but in past BHG when ran with the cap off the water would literally shoot out.

also the car has a metal head gasket, would this cause the head to warp rather than blow the actual gasket and maybe blow the water across the the head rather than being a full blown head gasket ?

well, the water system is definitely the first place to look - water obviously ain't moving around - the only question is where.

Go to someone who can do a CO2 test on the rad. That will soon tell you if its head gasket.

It must be a area with big head and water,so it can only be the head area,but not much more,sounds like headgasket/broken head to me,but thats just my thinking

Sounds very much like the head gasket. Give George/Barry a bell at DCY, you have only just recently got the car, I'm sure they could sort it for you. But don't drive it what ever you do.

Arrrrrrrrrrrr.............it's a metal head gasket, then it's unlightly, (but not impossible,), to be that, which may indicate the head it's self!!

Hi chaps,

The symptoms sound similar to when a water pump went on a friend's car.

If the water pump is dead then you probably wont be able to get any serious heat out of the cabin heater even when the engine is warm - if you can get strong heat then there is probably good coolant flow through the heater and the pump is probably OK.

I know that stats can stick shut but I think this is quite rare - they normally leak wax out of the centre and then wont shut properly (so your car wont warm up).

might be only simple. Abbey have one in at the minute with same symptoms and they think its down to a faulty ECU. i then mentioned the wiring problem so hopefully this is all it is.
